Horray! First year is over =) ONLY 4 years left... We learnt to do lots of things but Chir101 was a great class which everybody thought was really fun.
We learnt really cool stuff like there's a very strong (illusive nonetheless) pulse to the side of the groin area which then is pretty strange to be poking around that area on someone else (that isn't your significant other). We also learnt that the radial pulse beats slightly after the posterior tibial pulse and it's called aortic coarctation (hahahaha - suuuuure we did) and how to test joints. For some strange reason, most people in the course, well, Kevin's classes anyway, now fear testing the thoracic spine in passive ROM and/or motion palpation.
Another great perk about this class was that we learnt to do massage. Yes boys, that's right, we girls rubbed up each other good with oil. And for the girls, we had guys rubbing each other up with oil too! (Why does everything get turned into something dirty nowadays?!) If you ever walked into our chiro pracs, you'd wonder what on earth we're doing. A lot of the time, we tested active range of motion which involved people in pairs a lifting arms and legs in all sorts of actions. We also were taught how to do a colonic pump and to feel how people's general passage of food was going. Great... huh?!
And to answer the question at the top of the page: a trigger point is well, let's just say something you have to experience to really know what it's all about.
