Chapter 2

I quietly stared at him.  His smile was incredible.  It was almost as if he weren’t real.

“Surprise!” he said.  I looked at him with a confused look on my face, Rayne beside me.  She, too, was smiling.  What was going on? I wondered.  “Err... you know who I am, right?”

“S-Skye?”  I asked.  If it were him, what would he do when he found out that I was a vampire?  I could feel my heart beating fast.

“Yep!” he said and I could have sworn my heart skipped a beat.  I squealed and then everything went dark.  For some reason I had passed out.

When I awoke I found myself lying in a bed.  Rayne, Skye, and someone else were standing around me.  Who was he?  Skye then got close to my face and asked if I was okay.  By seeing how weak I was I realized why I had passed out.  I had forgotten to feed.

“Yes, I just forgot to – “I cut myself off from answering.  Skye didn’t know I was a vampire and I couldn’t tell him I had forgotten to feed before I arrived.

            “Forgot to what?” he asked.

“Uh… Oh nothing! I’m fine!” I pretended.  “I’m so glad to see you again!  I thought you would have forgotten all about me.”

“I’ll never do that!  Listen I’ll go get you some water.  You rest here ‘til I get back, okay?” he said even though he was confused.

“O-okay!” As he left I noticed the other guy staring at me like he hated me.  What was his problem? I wondered.

“Rayne?  Do you mind if I have a word alone with Starre?” he asked to my surprise.  I sat up on the bed I had been laid in.  I was getting weaker, I needed blood soon.

“Oh… Yeah, okay.  That okay with you Starre?” asked Rayne.

“Yeah, fine,” I answered becoming annoyed.  Who was this guy?!  Rayne left ad the guy stood up and shut the door.  I felt uncomfortable.  I wanted to be alone with Skye, not him.

“So… who are you?!  What do you want?!” I interrogated him forgetting how weak I was.

“Calm down you’ll pass out again,” he said.  “My name is Kazor.  I’m Skye’s friend and I want to know something.  What is it you want with him, foul beast?!”  How rude of him! I thought.  I may be a vampire, but I am certainly not a ‘foul beast’.

            “What are you talking about?”

“Oh you know very well what I am talking about!  You’re a wicked vamp!”  How in the world did he know I was a vampire?  He leaned on a near by table that was next to a window.

He had a slender body and was tall unlike Skye.  His hair was a strange reddish brown color but wasn’t dark and his eyes were a gorgeous brown.  It was then I noticed they had small slits in them, much like a cats, too.  Then he smiled and I had discovered how he’d known what I was.

            “You’re a half breed,” I said calmly.

            “Correct.”

Half breeds didn’t have to drink blood every night like a regular vampire do.  They also aren’t that strong and don’t heal very fast.  It takes at least a week for them to heal regular wounds, sometimes longer or shorter.  They also aren’t able to fly, but to jump high.  They can be killed easily by a human.

“Starre, can I come in?” Skye asked knocking on the door gently.  I looked at Kazor and saw him take out a vile of blood.

“Here, drink it,” he tossed me the vile.  “Save some for later, that’s my only extra one.”

“Thanks,” I quickly took a few sips and told Skye he could come in.  He glared at Kazor as he walked out of the room.  He wondered why Kazor had been in the room with me alone.

“Hi!  How you feeling?” he asked handing me the glass of water and smiling.  I loved his smile.  It made me feel so warm inside.

“A lot better, thanks,” I smiled taking a sip of water.

“Great to here,” he said and then as I set my glass of water on the bedside table he took hold of my hand.  He helped me out of the bed and we walked into the living room.

“I have something to show you,” he said looking into my eyes.  “Rayne, Kazor, we’ll be back sometime late.”  I looked at him confused.

“Okay,” Rayne smiled while Kazor nodded with no apparent emotion.  Rayne was standing next to the coffee table while Kazor was sitting on the couch.

“See you later, Rayne.”  I said as Skye lead me out of the door.  I wondered where we were going.

            “Have fun.”

We walked down the street and turned the corner heading out of town.  My legs were getting weak and I stumbled a few times almost falling.  Skye caught me.

“Careful now,” he picked me up as if I were light as a feather.  I gazed into his soft, brown eyes as the sky slowly turned dark.  “We’re almost there.”  I gently laid my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes.  I never wanted this moment to end.

“I’m sorry I left, Skye,” I whispered in his ear.

“Shh, it’s okay.  We’re here,” he said softly.  I opened my eyes and looked around.  It was like a dream.  We were in a very large field surrounded by trees.  There were many flowers and I noticed that before all the trees was a row of Blue Roses.  The Blue Roses surrounded the whole field as did the trees.

The stars were now out and you would have thought it would be completely dark here.  It was dimly lit by the glow of the stars and Blue Roses.  I had no idea that Blue Roses glowed at night.  The one in my hair that Skye had given me was glowing as well.

“Wow… I had no idea such a place existed,” I said amazed.  There was also a small pond on the east side of the field and a large hill at the north.

“Like it?  It’s the only place in Cerebres that is still this beautiful.  No one knows about it but you and me.  I’ve always known about this secret place.  I would come here often to get away from seeing how awful the town is now,” Skye told me setting me down.  I noticed his Blue Rose was tucked in his shirt pocket.

“Yeah, I love it,” I said.  Then he took my hand and led me behind a large tree.  There were flowers behind it along with five grave stones.  I slowly knelt to read them.  Two were for his parents and his little sister, Raphael had slaughtered them too, and the other two were for my parents.  My eyes felt warm with tears.  As I stood up I smiled.

I had had a little brother but no one knew what happened to him.  He ran away long ago when my parents were murdered by Raphael.  He had watched them being killed at a young age.  After that everything was too much for him and he ran away.  I hoped he was still alive.

“How did you?” I asked him.  He then caressed my cheek, wiping the tears away.

“Magic.”  I had always thought they had been hung and then burned to ashes.  I never knew they had had graves but I was happy they were buried in this lovely place.

We walked out from behind the tree to the middle of the field.  Skye sat down and I sat next to him.  I saw him take his Blue Rose out of his shirt pocket and place it above his ear in his soft black hair as I had done.  Then he lay back against the grass resting his head on his arm.  I looked at him wondering how I could tell him I was a vampire.  Then I thought about Kazor and how he was a half breed.  Skye must know that he’s a half breed and he seems okay with it, but… What would he do about a full vampire?  I took a deep breath.

“Skye?” I asked shaking a little.

“Yeah?”

“I-I need to tell you something…” he sat up as I said this.

“What is it?” he looked worried.

“I… I’m a vampire,” I took another deep breath trying to hold back tears.  “I had to leave a year ago because I have very strong power.  A year ago I wasn’t able to control it.  I won’t bite you, I have control now of course, but I’ll understand if you never want to see me again…” I burst into tears, trembling.

“Don’t be silly!  Vampire or not, I’ll always love you,” he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close to him.  I was still sobbing and shaking.  Then he lifted my chin and kissed me.  “It’s okay,” he wiped my tears away once again.

“Thank you…” I said and then he laid back down pulling me with him.  One of his arms was behind his head and the other was around me.  I gazed up at the stars with my head on his shoulder.

I never had felt this good in my whole life.  We stared at the stars for awhile until finally we both fell asleep.

An hour later I felt Skye pick me up.  I was half asleep and could tell he was taking me somewhere.  I didn’t bother with asking where it was, I was too tired.  I laid my head on his shoulder again my eyes still closed.  I heard what sounded like a door squeak open and then close.  I opened my eyes to see where we were.

We were back at Rayne’s house but there wasn’t any sign of Rayne or Kazor anywhere.  Skye sat me down on the couch not realizing I was awake.  My eyes felt heavy but I tried hard not to close them.  I wanted to know where Rayne was.  Skye went into one of the spare bedrooms upstairs.

Slowly, I stood up and looked around.  I went into the kitchen and was surprised to see Rayne and Kazor rather close to each other.  They were gazing into each other eyes and didn’t seem to notice me.

“Err… I’m sorry!” I said quickly.  “Just making sure you was okay, Rayne.”

“Oh!  You’re back!  Don’t worry its fine!” Rayne looked over to me.  Kazor gave me a dang-it-you-ruined-the-moment look.  Rayne was blushing.

“Good night,” I said turning and leaving the kitchen.  I walked up stairs and stood outside the bedroom that was Skye’s.  His door was shut so I knocked gently on it.  “Good night, Skye, sleep well!” I said and turned to leave but before I could walk away the door opened and Skye grabbed my arm.  He pulled me closer to him as I looked into his warm eyes.

“There are only two spare bedrooms.  Kazor’s already got the second and I have this one.  Where will you sleep?” he asked gazing back into my eyes.

“Well I could sleep on the floor in Rayne’s bedroom,” I answered.  At this he pulled me into his room and shut the door.  What was he doing?  My heart was racing.  He then wrapped his arms around me.

“Do you trust me?” he asked.

“Yes, of course.”

“Then stay in here with me.  The floor isn’t comfortable and you wouldn’t be able to sleep very well.”  I couldn’t believe he was saying this.  I stared into his eyes, they were pleading at me.  I wasn’t sure what to say.

“Err… The floor doesn’t bother me.  I’m used to it.”  I answered him.  “You don’t have to give up your bed on my account.”

“No that’s not what I meant.  We can use the same bed and you won’t have to sleep on the floor.  It’s okay if you don’t want to though.”

“It’s not that…” I couldn’t tell him I didn’t want to.  I wanted to fall asleep in his arms but sleeping too close to him might be a bad idea.  Sometimes in the middle of the night I get blood thirsty.  I never wanted to taste Skye’s blood.  If I was to get blood thirsty I’d not be able to control myself from biting him since he’d be so close.  If I was in Rayne’s room on the floor I would be able to control myself from biting her since she would be up on her bed.

“Then why not?” he asked sounding hurt.

“Well... um…” I hesitated.

“What is it?”

“Sometimes I get… Blood thirsty during the night…”

“Oh… I see…”

“If I was to get blood thirsty and was lying close to you I wouldn’t be able to help myself from biting you.  I don’t –“

“Shh… It’s okay,” he said cutting me off by placing his hand over my mouth.  I saw that he was smiling.  He was happy about this?  I looked at him confused.  “I’m not worried about you biting me.  I’m not scared.  It’s okay.  Here we’ll keep a vile of blood near by,” he reached into my pocket and took the vile out, “and if you do get blood thirsty you can drink it and not bite me.”

“Skye… I drank all the blood in the vile…”  I said and then he looked at the vile realizing there was only a tiny drop left.

“Oops...  Well then we’ll just have to fill it up again,” he walked over to a dresser and opened a drawer.  He slowly pulled out a knife.

“No!  Don’t cut yourself for me!”  I said scared that he would anyway.  I never wanted to taste his blood.

“Shh...  It’s okay,” he started to cut himself but before he was able to cut into his skin I quickly grabbed the knife away from him.  “Hey!  Be careful!”

“I’m not going to let you cut yourself for me!  Sorry if this hurts your feelings, but I don’t want your blood.”  He laughed at this.  Somehow it was funny but I was being serious.

Skye walked over to me and took the knife away.  He placed it back into the drawer and closed it.  Then he wrapped his arms around me once again.

“It’s okay,” he placed his cheek against mine. “Don’t worry, you didn’t hurt my feelings and you don’t have to stay in here.  You don’t have to worry about biting me either.  I trust you.”  After hearing him say this I made up my mind.

“Okay, I’ll stay,” I answered.  My cheeks felt warm.  I was blushing.

“Thank you,” he hugged me and kissed my cheek.

“You’re welcome.”

Skye kept his arms around me.  He then fell upon the bed pulling me with him.  We were lying on our sides facing each other.  Skye then gently kissed my lips.  My eyes were growing heavy.  Then finally I closed them.

“I love you, Skye,” I said softly.

“I love you too, Starre,” he replied.  I was put to sleep by these words.  As I slept I hugged one of Skye’s arms to my chest.  I slept better then I ever had that night.

At about 5:00am Skye and I had woken up to a loud crashing sound coming from outside.  Skye was lying on his back, when we heard it, and I was on my side lying with my head on his shoulder.  Skye got up out of bed and I sat up.  He went over to the window and pulled back the curtains to look outside.

“What is it?” I asked after seeing his eyes get wide.  He looked frightened and ignored my question.  “What’s wrong?  Skye?”  I got up to look outside for myself.  As I stood I immediately realized what it was without looking outside.  I felt the presence of another vampire.  Skye closed the curtains shut.  Then I smelled it, blood.

I ran out of the room and down stairs.

“Starre, wait!” Skye called chasing after me.  I ran to the door leading outside in the living room, opened it, and ran outside.  Who was this vampire?  I had to know.  I stopped in the street seeing the vampire standing bent over a small child apparently feeding.  Skye stopped a few steps behind me.

It began to rain as I stared at the vampire.  I couldn’t believe me eyes.  It was Serabis, my master…
