Chapter 6
The next morning I awoke with a strange feeling. At first I thought I sensed another vampire nearby. Then when I stood up and walked over to the window, the feeling went away.
“Weird…” I said aloud. My stomach ached with hunger as I walked out of the bedroom. When I came to the end of the stairs I reached in my pocket for the vile of blood I had saved. It was empty. I stared at the vile sadly.
“What’s wrong, vamp? Hungry?” I looked up to see Mindy sitting on the couch. Not her again, I thought.
“Yes, good thing you’re here, eh? I thought I was going to starve,” I joked giving her an evil smile. At the same time Skye walked out of the kitchen with a glass of milk.
“Ah! Skye, she’s going to eat me!” Mindy ran behind him.
“I’m going out for awhile. I’ll see you later, Skye,” I said getting annoyed with Mindy. I wished she wouldn’t hide behind him so much.
“Starre, wait!” Skye called after me pushing Mindy off him and setting his milk down on a small table next to the couch. He cursed at Mindy and came after me. “Where are you going?” I stopped outside the door. Skye stood behind me.
“To feed,” Skye shivered as I answered him. “The vile is empty.”
“O-okay, be careful.”
“I will, don’t worry,” large, black, feathery wings appeared on my back. Before I could take flight, Skye turned me around and hugged me.
“I love you,” he said and gently kissed my lips.
“I love you, too,” he let go of me and I flew up into the sky. I flew towards the forest Skye and Kazor had been hunting in the night before. There, I would find an animal to feed off of.
Animal’s blood wasn’t as good as human’s but I hated feeding off humans. Sometimes I had no choice and had to take human’s blood. I tried hard to only take that of animals.
Then, once again I felt the same feeling from when I had woken up. I looked down at Cerebres looking for any sign of a vampire. Soon just like before the feeling dissipated. Was I just imagining this? I wondered.
I was now flying down into the forest. I landed in a small opening surrounded by trees. After making my wings disappear I climbed a tree and sat on a branch. While doing this I did not make a sound.
I waited for an animal to cross my path. Thirty minutes had now passed while waiting. I was becoming weak and wished I’d see something soon before I passed out. It was true there were a few small birds in the tree next to mine. However those birds were far too small for me to feed off of. Bird’s blood was also very nasty tasting.
Finally I saw a large male deer walking slowly in front of the tree I was in. Deer’s blood was fairly good. It was a lot better then birds. I jumped from the branch I had been sitting on onto its back. He tried to struggle but I kept my grip tight around its neck.
“Sleep,” I whispered into the deer’s ear. Almost immediately the deer fell limp. As he collapsed to the forest floor I got off its back and bent to its neck.
Finding the jugular vein I bit down onto the deer’s furry neck. The blood flowed smoothly over my lips and tongue. Before I knew it, ten minutes had passed and I was now full. I took out the vile that was empty and filled it with the rest of the remaining blood. The deer was now dead.
“Mm…” I stood up licking my lips. As I was putting the vile of blood back into my pocket my black wings appeared once again. Before taking flight, I felt the same vampire presence again. “Hello? Is anyone there?” I looked around. There was nothing but a few chirps from birds. The feeling then vanished again. Strange, I thought.
I flew up out of the forest and headed back to Rayne’s. I hoped that Mindy wasn’t there anymore.
When I arrived and walked into the house, I saw Kazor asleep on the couch. It was now mid-day and Rayne was making lunch. I saw Mik sitting on a big pillow licking his injured paw. Where were Skye and Mindy though? I wondered.
“Oh, hey, Starre,” Mik said having looked up at me when I had walked through the door. Then he went back to licking his paw.
“Hey, where’s Skye?”
“Right behind you,” Skye said. He had just came inside as well as I had. I turned around and he wrapped his arms around me. The door was still open. I looked into his warm eyes and smiled. He tried to kiss me but before he could I put my hand in the way.
“Wait,” I said, “I still have the taste of blood in my mouth.”
“I don’t care if I have to taste blood to kiss you,” Skye pulled my hand away and gently kissed me. “Heh… It’s not that bad, kind of sweet actually.” I laughed at him.
Suddenly I felt the presence of the vampire again. I looked over Skye's shoulder out the door that was still open. There was a dark figure standing outside it. They were wearing all black and had a hood over their head. They also had a Raven perched on their shoulder. This had to be the vampire I had been sensing all day. Somehow I thought I knew the two.
