Welcome To The Business Section

These pages are dedicated to promoting myself, my web site creation and maintenance business as well as promote Small Businesses in Jamaica.

A message to all companies big and small planning to use the World Wide Web to promote your business.

The biggest mistake companies in Jamaica makes is that their justification for having a web site is to attract residents of Jamaica to their business but disregard the possibility of attracting business from non-residents of Jamaica. Because of this, they are limiting any new business from the Internet to only the rich residents of Jamaica. Instead, they should be looking at the over 200 million people using the Internet as potential customers. These people, by virtue of having internet access, has a significant disposable income thus has money to invest, save and/or spend. The end result is that these companies will never see any increase in business because of their web site.

Another mistake these companies make (this mistake happens because of the first) is they do not update their web site on a regular basis. I recommend updating company web sites once a month with a minimum of once a quarter. This will enhance the company's image in the eyes of existing customers as these customers will be able to access current information on products and services offered by the company at anytime. Also, updating the web site with current company, product and service information will encourage potential clients from anywhere in the world to do business with the company.

Recommendations I have for all business is to designate an employee to:
  • Check web site for broken links after site has been updated. Having broken links on a business site is like locking the front door of the business and putting a sign on the door saying GO AWAY WE DO NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS.
  • Check e-mail at least once a day. Just because a company is new to the Internet is no reason for not getting into the habit of checking for e-mail messages daily. If the company uses the excuse of "We do not receive e-mail" as a reason not to check e-mail daily will create a situation like this: Potential client somewhere in the world looking to do business in Jamaica finds your site and sends an e-mail. Meanwhile the potential client contacted one of your competitors on the web and got a response within a few days therefore got the business. Three months or more goes by before you check your e-mail, finds the message and send a reply. The potential client ignores your message. You loose.

As you can see the potential to increase your business by using the Internet is immense, but the potential to harm your business because you implemented your web site focused on local business only or not checking your company's e-mail is also immense. More advise: Web Hosting!.
