Review -  Angel: The Series 4:22 - Home

Season Four of Angel has certainly been on of ups and downs. Ups, have included the return of Angelus (sadly though, not his trademark leather pants), Faith and Willow. Downs have been anything related to Crapdelia (that's not a typo) and Connor. However, when your left with the thankless task of cleaning up the nuclear spill that David Greenhack Greenwalt left with his Cordelia worship i guess that should come as no surprise.

Fortunately for all of us, Home wraps things up decently enough - well done Tim Minear!

Apparently, Wolfram and Hart were so deeply impressed with how Team Angel destroyed the chances of world peace they are going to give their shiny new LA digs to them. No, really, that is what happens and none other than the newly-resurrected Lilah explains this to them (normally I'd be asking right about now if ME is aware that unless your turned into a vampire death is supposed to be permanent but I'm gonna let this go because Lilah is the best character on this friggin show). She offers to show them around the new offices to see what they think

Initially they all refuse but in the end go anyway. Good thing it wasn't a trap then or else curiosity would have killed the morons.

Anyway, they go, see a lot of cool stuff (for them anyway) and start liking the idea of setting up shop in an evil law firm. As you do. Unfortunately a news report appears on the TV featuring Connor, who has apparently taken some people hostage - possibly with the intention to whine the poor bastards to death. No surprises there since that is exactly what he has done to the long suffering audience for almost two years.

Angel goes to sort his son out (finally getting around to that spanking then...oh no wait, that's my inner Slash Goddess speaking. And - ew!)

Connor has in fact got the hostages and himself strapped to explosives and for an added bonus Cordelia is strapped to them too. Whoa, a chance for both these annoying shits to be taken out at the same time - please push the button, for the love of God push it! *Sigh* it doesn't happen but i had fun yelling that at the TV anyways.

Father and son have a talk (all together: Awwwwwww), then a fight (die Connor, die!). Angel apparently slashes his throat (Audience: YES!) but then everything goes white and we're back at Wolfram and Hart.

Everyone is getting used to the idea their new and expanded roles (I've a crazy hope that maybe now ME will actually graduate Gunn from Token Black Guy to something resembling an actual character but i won't get my hopes up too much) there - Fred is head of the science division, Gunn, well that's unclear and i actually don't care to be honest. Wesley is head of a nifty library bit with a character whose name escapes me but has some potential for being interesting. Which, naturally, guarantees we'll probably never see him again. Lorne seems to be involved in some entertainment thing and Angel of course is the boss. Has anyone noticed that since Crapdelia want all Coma!Cordy on us the AI team has been treating Angel with far more respect? Hell, she was a bad influence on everyone before she ever became evil.

Anyhoo, they decide to take the offer. Ooops, sorry, Angel makes the decision for them. How very undemocratic of him. Then Angel asks Lilah if he can see Connor, to which Fred asks "Whose Connor?"

Right. So everyone has forgotten him except the AUDIENCE! They. Didn't. Do. The. Audience - i mean come on, we put up with this pointless turd for almost two friggin years, we have earned the right to have Connor removed from our memories too!

Back to the plot, Angel drives somewhere presumably far away and we see Connor living with a normal family and wearing a truly atrocious striped shirt. He's happy and Angel is happy for him but pained also because he failed him.

Let the brooding commence.

That's about the it.

So - What About Next Season?

Well, first and foremost there's the addition of Spuke, which isn't making anyone but the Spikers happy and i wouldn't call them hard to please. In fact, they are practically drooling at the possibility of Spike coming and taking over Angel's show (his love rival for Buffy, lest we forget. Well, actually, Angel won so 'rival' seems rather redundant). This is something nobody else wants and I'm hoping he's just there for comic relief. Hell, maybe he'll go back to the cool character he once was but i think that really is asking for a miracle.

As to AI itself, the fact that they will be working out of their former enemy camp is certainly interesting and as mentioned presents opportunities for the more undeveloped of the characters to finally evolve. About bloody time too.

Connor is scheduled to reappear for on episode next season, hopefully he'll be less annoying. Cordy is probably also going to be there, hopefully SaintCorduffy will not be the prevailing persona. Let us please have the snarky bitch from high school back.

As to potential love interests (because they always try to get one in for Angel. Learning from mistakes is not a personlity trait of anyone at ME apparently) a woman called Eve is being talked about. *Yawn* who cares? They always suck but we could do with another female besides Fred. Whether or not Buffy will be popping in isn't clear, fingers crossed though.
