Want some insight into Private Miller?

There has been some debate over which branch of the military Graham is associated with. The most common and widely accepted answer is the U.S. Marine Corps... mostly ‘cause Riley said so -

From ‘Who Are You’
Riley: Door's open.
Faith: So?
Riley: So my fantasies don't tend to include a bunch of marines staring in at me.

However, in ‘Into the Woods’ Major Whatshisname refers to Graham’s unit as Army. So, what does this mean? After exhaustive research, and careful consideration I have come to the conclusion that the BtVS writers don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.

What the writers might have done was try to group all branches of the military together under the heading of Army, which is not only wrong, it’s insulting, especially considering that the Marine Corps is an offshoot of the U.S. Navy.

Anyway, Marines or Army, Private or Lieutenant, Graham's 'official' background was never established. In cases like these prehaps it's best to just be like Joss and make it up as you go along.
