Rift Control Study Group
Introduction
You are slightly nervous as you approach the lecture hall. You arrived on a transport last night and have settled in to your new quarters. This morning you will begin your career as a member of the Rift Control Study Group. You file in and take a seat among your fellow soldiers…Men and women who are all heroes, preparing to engage filthy mages, monsters and dirty D-Bees in battle for the good of mankind. You fidget as you are addressed by the brass who run the show, uncomfortable in your dress uniform. Lt. Colonel Danvers Carew, your military commanding officer welcomes you and challenges you to always seek excellence and diligence in your service to the Coalition. Dr. Henry Warlow, the Scientific Chair of the RCSG is also introduced. He seems to be a reserved and nervous man, although you doubt how comfortable you would be paraded in front of a crowd. He stammers somewhat as he briefs you on the surrounding geography of the Devil’s Gate. Later you follow your instructions into a small instruction room. There you meet Lt. Murphy, the commander of Tango Alpha, your new unit. "Alright troops, we’re going to see some serious stuff out there. First things first, though! I want us functioning as a team. We’re going to have to depend on each other and know each other so well, that when it’s crunch time, everybody can work together like a well oiled machine. So you guys better tell a little bit about yourself now."

Corporal Draxlus Drakylbane Private Jane Ripley
Lt. Murphy scans the room for a minute then addresses each of you.
“Corporal Drakylbane, we are ...pleased... to have one of your...abilities...on board with us. I know that there will be many
opportunities for you to prove your mettle against demons and the denizens of the nearby Magic Zone. We have
limited staff, but we have been assigned two dog pack members to Tango Alpha for
your supervision.
Corporal King…I hope that previous difficulties will not result in any more problems. We are giving you another chance, just as humanity has
been given another chance in this world. I think that you will prove worthy of our trust
and effort. As backup firepower, you will command two skelebots. Use them well.
Privates Joad and Ripely, your records speak for themselves. You each have many
skills and abilities that will be called upon. Your personal losses are noted in your file. Unfortunately there is no room for
sympathy in our unit. The past is the past and ours is a fight for the living. Carry your pain and anger
with you…it too is a tool that will serve your Emperor well.
Corporal O’Leary, I am very pleased to have you in my command. I will be the first to admit that I pulled a few strings to have you assigned to
Tango Alpha. I am charging you with the responsibility of squad leader for Tango Alpha. Do
not falter in your service and much free reign will be given. I am in command of several units like this and I’d much prefer to not have to micromanage one
with capable people in charge.
I will leave you with Sgt. Alanna Kailar, my Director of Transportation, who will brief you on your first mission. Good luck, Troops!” Lt. Murphy turns and
leaves the room.
