The Argenti

Ecology:
Forests, Herbivore

Society:
The Argenti rely heavily on magic, scholars having a higher standing in life than a soldier. Children are regularly tested for aptitude in magic and apprenticed if any skill is detected. This magic is used to better their lives, sculpting their living cities within the trees. There is a definate caste system, however. The Sorla (enchanted) will not associate with someone without the gift of magic. It is important to note that all of the Argenti possess the ability of magic, but what others would consider significant power, the Argenti consider parlor tricks. The five tests at the age of 10 determine their lot in life. How far can a child push a 1 ton boulder? How many animals can he control with his mind? Can he summon rain then banish it? Can he grow his own home? And can he bond a Burla (commoner) as his guardian?

This last test is the most significant for both Sorla and Burla. The regular usage of magic will tax a Sorla's body and the bond allows him to use the life of his Burla to fortify his own. For the Burla, this is the greatest honor he can achieve. He becomes the personal guardian of his Sorla at the cost of all magical ability he may have once held. In exchange, his senses are keener and his body stronger.

If the test is passed, a Master will apprentice a student. Often, students will vie for a single Master, sometimes with duals to the death. Othertimes, when there is a powerful student available, Masters will dual for the right to teach him. Students become Masters after passing tests laid out by the Circle of Seven. These tests are personal in nature but will not number more than 3.

Sorla rise through the ranks of society by defeating members of their school. Their are seven schools and each has a seat in the Circle of Seven.

Burla simply become craftsmen of some kind, many using their magic to become wealthy merchants. Others become soldiers for one of the seven schools.

Physiology:
Argenti are humanoid, the tallest of them standing 5 feet tall. They have thin hair covering their entire bodies, thickest on their heads, forearms and legs. Their hair color ranges from browns to black. Their skin is a dark tan. Their eye color is always a molten silver. They have long, dextrous fingers and a prehensile tail.

The Argenti do not age at all once they reach adulthood, though many do not survive beyond that because of the harshness of their society.

The Argenti mate once per 100 years; mates are determined by duels.
