Setting The Stage For War
In the late 1800's, nationalism, among other things, began to cause rivalries and tension between nations. this was around the time when Europe became endustrialized and nations tried to establish empires.Moast of central and eastern Europe was ruled by empires with seven nationality groups, all using their own languages. Most of these groups wanted to form independent nations. they would do so by joining together with similar groups.
The Balkans were a group of people located in southeastern Europe. they had been fought over by Russia, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire for countless years. In 1908, two Balkan territories were annexed by Austria-Hungary. Serbia, a Balkan nation, called on Russia for help; Russia did nothing.
All these factors were taken into consideration and played a tremendous part in the start of World War I.
