Scooter's Song
growing up together, i knew we'd be best friends forever. you never left my side, until the day you died. now, what i say is true: everyday i pray for you.
you were my best friend, loyal to the end... and its true that i still cry, and its true i still ask, "why?" why did you have to go... and leave me all alone? why did things have to be this way? why cant you still be here today?
i saw you leave and kissed you goodbye, i tried to smile for you, but i could only cry. i watched you go out that door and then fell right to the floor. i knew id never see your face again, i knew i was losing my best friend.
i remember the cold rain that night, i remember digging your grave by flashlight. it was heaven's angles crying for the loss of such a noble life, every star was masked in mourning and full of strife. my tears poured down my face like the rain, it was all i could do to ease the pain.
i remember looking down into the deep cold ground, just wishing this hole was for me, not you, wishing i that i could jump in too. i tried to make it nice and soft, i tried to make smooth, i tired to make it perfect for you, i tried, i tried, i tried...
i saw your small frail body placed gently down, i tried to say goodbye but couldnt make a sound. your beautiful life wrapped in a shroud, like the moon hidden behind the cloud. all i could say was, "i love you." and as i cried i knew you loved me too.
we said good bye, we stood and cried. i know you heard what was said about the wonderful life you led: the joy and happiness you brought us, the lessons that you taught us. we slowly covered you with dirt and tears, and fond memories of sixteen years.
you're my best friend and i'll love you always, i'll remember you for the rest of my days. and though, from this world you had to depart, you'll forever live within my heart. there will be a day we run to eachother again, but from now until forever, you're still my best friend. |
