Xbox Version 1.0 and 1.1

The first set of Xbox's that first came out (version 1.0)were supposed to be hack proof, and had bad disk drives. After 6-8 months of release the Xbox was hacked by a certain someone who's name I cannot recall.

Microsoft was a bit upset and held Nvidia to it's promise of making hack proof chips. Nvidia was forced to toss out millions o Xbox chips in order to upgrade to a unhackable one. Low and behold, 3 weeks after the new release of the chip which were used in the Xbox versions 1.1 was hacked. Kinda sad don't you think?

Untill the Xbox was hacked, MOD chips were okayed by Microsoft. Now since it has been hacked, anyone with a MOD chip found in thier Xbox, which can be scanned on Xbox Live by Microsoft, will not allow you to play Online with Xbox LIVE.

There is bit more to it than just the new chips in version 1.1. The newer version has no cooling fan on the GPU. The newer version carried the new Nvidia chip, and the newer version has a better disk drive. These new disk drives being used can play DvD's better without the skip in version 1.1. They also will play some CD-R's and most CD-RW's...

There are rumors that Xbox version's 1.0 can have some MOD chips without it being detected on LIVE. If you send your Xbox off for repairs, regardless of what is broken, the Nvidia chip 1.1 will be installed along with a new disk drive.

If your wondering what kind of disk drive your Xbox is currently using, be sure to check my "Xbox Drive and CD's" link on the information page. For those wondering what kind of Xbox you have, 1.0 or 1.1, there is really no way to tell except if you have the newer disk drive. Simiply because Microsoft is trying to keep this whole ordeal hush hush. If you try asking a rep about it, they'll say they nothing of what your talking about.
