Steve's travel
I am creating this page because of the wonderful places I have been and then slowly my memory begins to erode.  This is sort of a journal and misc. experiences I want to remember.
Chile 2000
My latest travel was to Santiago, Chile on November 1st, 2000.  I flew down On Delta's inaugural flight.  Upon arrival, I found that the airport terminal was under construction but the facility was as modern as any you would find in the states.  Prior to immigrations all U.S. and Canadian passport holders were required to pay a $45.00 entry tax.  This is a one time tax good for the length of your passport.  Customs and immigrations were efficient and expeditious. A taxi ride to downtown cost $18.00.  The hotel were I stayed was the Crowne Plaza, the same used by the Delta crewmembers.  I received a special rate of $68.00 per day.  Foreign visitors do not have to pay the 18% hotel tax if they pay using a credit card or US dollars.
I was immediately impressed with the modern, clean city of Santiago, nestled in a valley surrounded by the Andes snowcapped mountains.  The city is host to over 40% of the countries total population. The city center is a swarm of business people, I noticed the men and women are dressed very professional and conducted themselves in a similar manner. Great place and I plan to return.
