Pompidou Me!
A rollicking romp through the history of the Pompidou Center
And then some.
    Between March 27th, and April 6th of 2003, I travelled to Paris, France, and toured it on a school trip with Christa McAuliffe Academy. One of my favorite attractions that we visited was the Pompidou Center, located in Beaubourg, Paris.
     The Pompidou Center (Centre Pompidou in French) is one of the most outrageous buildings in Paris. It was designed by architects Renzo Piano (from Italy) and Richard Rodgers (from the UK) to bring more art and culture to the people of Paris.
     The people of Paris were skeptical at first, the exposed pipes on the side of the building caused a scandal when the building was erected in 1977.
    It's 1977 factory style architecture violently contrasts with surrounding houses of Paris' oldest district.
    But the Pompidou has proven itself to be a great success with it's easily accessible public library and many art exhibitions.
     The Museum has large collections of paintings spanning the 20th century and including works by the most famous artists (Picasso, Braque, Max Ernst, Margritte, Chagall, Matisse, Delaunay, Kandinsky, Klee, and many others.)
