  • aag = fire

  • budhiman = intelligent person

  • chaaran = spy (lang - malayalam) a member of the secret police who typically do not put on a uniform and there fore are difficult to identify.
    synonyms- plain clothes men; mr. javert

  • fool = in hindi phool means a flower; i have slightly modified the pronounciation to suit the occassion.

  • gaavai = singing

  • godi = lap

  • godi mein = on the lap

  • hum = me, i

  • jhompadiya = hut ( lang - bhojpuri a dialect of bihar in north india)

  • jyothi = is a sanskrit word and like all sanskrit words it is difficult to translate. the only equivalent i can find is noor in urdu.
    it is one of the favourite names for a boy child especially in bengal. the senior most jyothi is almost ninety; dada is still going strong.
    in kerala it is mostly a girls name.

  • malayalam = a language spoken in south india in the province kerala. it is closely related to or i might even say derived from tamil a dravidian language spoken by the tamils all over the world.

  • malhar = a hindustani "raag" - a musical note in north indian classical music.

  • pavangal = poor fellows (pavangal policekaranmar = poor policemen!)

  • shriman = equivalent to mr. in english . the feminine gender is shrimathi (mrs.) shri. is the short form and in case of women smt.

  • thechi = is a wild flowering herb. not exactly colourful but the hindus use it for their prayers and it is supposed to have some medicinal values as well

  • theettam = shit

  • vijayan o v = a famous malayalam writer who died recently.

  • yaaar = literally means friend and is a common north indian exclamation.
