( the haunted house )

i had lived in madras (now chennai) for one year. that was in 1992 immediately i came out on release (from where? dont tell anybody). you may be surprised but i got a house within no time and the rent was not very high, taking into account the fact it was madras metro.

the previous residents, a tamilian family left the house within one month and ran for their life! they thought the house was haunted, and indeed a woman did hang herself a few months prior to that in one of the rooms of the house. i was the second occupant after the suicide. i stayed there comfortably for one year resting and recuperating. and for once i had company! i was sleeping in the very room where the poor woman committed suicide. the lady ghost and me got along famously. i used to amuse people telling them about how vasnatha panchami ravil i heard her bangles jingling and all sorts of stuff.

so in chennai, in spite of an in house ghost, life was comfortable and there were no problems at all. after that i shifted to alleppey and again life was smooth. but once i came to thiruvananthapuram things started happening.

in the latter half of the ninetees i was staying, alone as usual, in a rented house in pulayanarkottah near the college. the department in which i was working had a computer; but i never ever could use it. gradually i realised that it was the domain of the "elite" and an "untouchable" can never dream of going any where near it. so i mobilised my humble resources and purchased one of my own. i am afraid it was not to the liking of the "elite"; the very thought of "mandabudhi" (the imbecile), using a computer must have been revolting to them!

incidents

1. i had a 2GB HDD then. now click on the link below and have a look at the picture.

scan disk 99

it shows the scan disk report before and after a "crash" my computer was supposed to have suffered. the hdd was under FAT32 both times. there is a definite increase in the total number of bytes as well as total allocation units after the crash.

2. some time during that period only i found a whole program, Mts ( microsoft transaction server?), installed on my computer. i still dont know what it is meant for though i have a copy of the software with me. not only that, a permanent path has been set for the program - setting a permanent path and all was greek to me then.

3. i had a few images on mol biology down loaded from the net long back and i had made it into a slide show. later i found that it has been converted into an html format. not only that, i was given the credit for this work - created by cheriyath jyothi; how magnaanimus! i did not know how to do it then and i must admit that i infact learned some of the nuances of html from what appeared "on its own" on my computer. this knowledge has indeed helped to improve my web pages! now i know that even for an expert it will take at least half an hour to make it. this happened in the house in bapuji nagar where i am now.

the above are just a few examples. there are innumerable such instances of articles disappearing - mostly those which can be put in your pocket and such. in my old hand written note book diaries of yonder years i can find passages underlined. i did not do it for sure. few days back in my present house i found that all the hard disks - i had three in one of my system boxes - were standing loosely on just one screw. how come?

queries

i have a few questions to you, highly intelligent IT professionals as well as others of you who, unlike me, i am sure, are well versant with all the intricacies of computing :-

1. is it possible for a hard disk to increase its size, that is can it grow?! ( for the contemporaries of dr. michio kaku and his multiverse, the rules of basic physics, which i have learnt in my school days, are no more valid or what!)

2. is it possible for a 5MB program to have landed on my pc and set a permanent path on its own?

3. is it possible for the star office presentation to convert itself into html format on its own?

if your answer is "No", then how did it all happen? No idea?!

the answer is simple - a ghost my dear; it is all the handiwork of a ghost who is, i mean was, a computer professional, may be with a few police ghosts to give him company! - QED

delusions of a diseased mind

now because i am paranoid and schizophrenic and all, what i think is that the hard disk did not crash at all, but was swapped for an identical disk. ( it did not help much, for that time they did not have the know how to crack even an eight digit password - "ellattinum lock ittirikkayannu". )

under normal circumstances this would have been a smooth operation; but mr. javert and co. at least by now should have realised that i am not exactly normal! i had a printed copy of the earlier scan report with me - but for that copy this fact would never have been noticed.

my advice, sorry suggestion, to mr. javert of the great indian police is that always give the "jyothees" the benefit of doubt; he is an imbecile but still try to be on the safer side; it cannot do any harm.

in this age of spirit and oppertuniy, any thing can be done remotely, let alone installing mts or making html pages. but one has to break in initially at least, to fit in the hard ware and to manipulate the hard disks where necessary. you see, to drill the rock on mars they had to put the robots there. oh, i forgot; the police man can outsmart all.

how does it matter!

but what difference does it make? even if i prove that people have been breaking into my house and tampering with my personal belongings and trampling on my fundamental rights who is going to listen? it is all paranoid delusions of a diseased mind!

tail piece
dr. sp - why do they break into his house?
dr. js - because we want to know what is in his mind !
