Deja Vu

Author's note: This is the old version. I will be rewriting this. There are some ends I need to tie up. This was my first one shot, and my second Harry Potter fan fiction. ~MadamePince
Hermione stared at the picture of her, Ron, and Harry. She still couldn't believe he was dead.
"Hermione?" a voice said from the doorway. Ginny came and sat down on the bed and embraced her friend. "I miss him, too," she whispered.
"You don't understand, Ginny!" Hermione cried. "Harry was everything to me... and now he's gone... everything I lived for is gone..." Her sobs cut through the air like a knife.
"Hermione," Ginny said, "you have a lot to live for. People love you, Hermione. We need you. Don't throw that all away. Harry wouldn't have wanted you to do yourself in. He would have wanted you to stand and fight. Like he would have done for you. Don't give up, Hermione," she said fiercely. "If you give up now, then everything Harry's done will have been for nothing. If you give up now, Voldemort wins." Hermione stared at Ginny through her tears, resolve in her eyes.
"I can't let Voldemort win," she said firmly. "Y-you're right, Ginny. And... Harry's with his parents and Sirius now..."
"Yes," Ginny said. "I'm sure Harry would want you to be happy. He wouldn't have wanted you to starve yourself... just because of him." Hermione sniffed and nodded, wiping away her tears.
"I'm starving," she admitted. Ginny chuckled slightly.
"Let's go get you some food, then," she said. Hermione nodded, took a last look at the photograph, closed the book, and left the room with Ginny.
Harry smiled. Ginny was right. He didn't want them to be unhappy, or kill themselves for him, least of all Hermione. He turned to Sirius.
"See? I told you she had more sense than that," he said.
"Okay, you were right," Sirius replied.
"You owe me ten Galleons," Harry grinned.
"Yeah, yeah, here you are," Sirius said grumpily, handing him the gold.
"What would Lily think?" James chuckled. "Queen to C3."
"She still owes me that three Galleons from yesterday," the man sitting across from James said. "I bet her that Leo's new invention wouldn't work. Ah, you're evil!" he exclaimed as James' queen beat up his rook.
A man with white hair passed and said, "I heard that, Jesus."
"Sorry, Signore DaVinci," Jesus replied, grinning.
"Oi, make your move," James told him. Sirius chuckled.
"You guys," he said. James grinned.
"Yup," he said. As one of Jesus' bishops wrestled his knight off the board, he said to Harry, "So how's Moony been doing?"
"He's been alright, I suppose. I expect he's lonely, now that he's the only Marauder left." James looked up.
"What do you mean? What happened to Peter?" Harry sighed.
"Voldemort killed him," he said. "Apparently he gave Voldemort false information."
"V-Voldemort?" James asked, looking stunned. "He gave information to Voldemort?"
"James, that's the entire reason you and Lily are here in the first place," Sirius said. "Peter betrayed you, and told Voldemort where you were hiding."
"Oh," James said. "Where is he? If he's dead, I'd like to have a little word with him," he finished dangerously.
"Downstairs, I suppose," Harry said.
Suddenly there was a shout. "Harry! James! Sirius!" Lily came running.
"What's going on, Lil?" Sirius asked.
"Attack--on--Hogwarts--" she panted. "Dumbledore--hurt--needs--help!"
"Dumbledore?!" James said, looking alarmed. "Send someone to help!"
"I'll go find Dad," Jesus said hurriedly, and ran off.
Sirius, Harry, and James watched the battle down below, James itching with impatience.
"Hurry up, Christ!" he muttered. Jesus came running back.
"Harry! James! Get down there!"
"What?" Harry asked, aghast.
"Do it!" he yelled. Harry and James were suddenly transported into the room next to Dumbledore.
"Stupefy! Impedimenta! Stupefy!" they shouted, helping Dumbledore to fight off the Death Eaters. Voldemort was standing behind them. When he saw Harry and James materialize next to Dumbledore, his white face went whiter.
"No! You're dead! I killed you!" he shrieked. "I killed you both!" Harry raised his wand to Voldemort and yelled as loud as he could, with as much strength as he could muster,
"AVADA KEDAVRA!" There was a flash of green light, a rushing sound, and Voldemort slumped to the floor. Harry lowered his wand, panting. It was over. Voldemort was dead. The danger gone, Harry and James materialized next to Lily. She hugged them both, and then they heard a voice behind them.
"Well done."
They turned to see a man standing behind them.
"T-thanks," Harry said. "Um, who are-?"
"I am Godric Gryffindor," the man said. "That was a very brave thing you just did. I believe the Sorting Hat was very right in putting you both in my House."
"You're--" Harry said, then stopped. "Um, I found your sword, back in second year... hope you don't mind..."
"Mind? Harry, I sent you that sword. It was my intention for you to use it to kill the basilisk. Believe me, if I hadn't, the results would have been disastrous. You and Ginny Weasley would have both died, along with countless Muggle-borns, and Lord Voldemort would have become strong again."
"He did anyway," Sirius added, "but you delayed it for two more years."
"Thanks," Harry said. "Listen, is there any way I can talk to Hermione?"
"Only in her dreams." Gryffindor replied.
"I'll do it," Harry said. "But how?"
"If she is asleep, all you have to do is concentrate. But there are rules. You cannot touch her. And you must not say anything that will reveal something in her future."
"Okay," Harry said. "Thanks."
"Of course, Harry. One other thing," Gryffindor said. "You would have done horribly in Slytherin." Harry grinned.
"Thanks," he said.
"Harry," James said, putting a hand on Harry's shoulder. "Hermione just fell asleep."
****
"Hermione?"
Hermione opened her eyes. Harry was standing at the foot of her bed. She propped herself up on her elbows.
"Harry?" she asked groggily.
"Yes," he said, "it's me."
"But... you're dead..." she said, unable to comprehend what was happening.
"Yes, I am," Harry said, "but I was able to come and visit you in this dream."
Hermione's heart sank. "So you really are dead... and I'm just dreaming."
"Yes," he said. He walked over to the side of the bed. She made to touch his hand, but he pulled away.
"Wha...?" Hermione was hurt and confused. Why had he pulled away?
"I'm sorry, Hermione. One of the rules of my coming to you in this dream is that I can't touch you. The results would be disastrous..."
"What would happen?"
"I don't know, but I'm sure it couldn't be anything good." he replied. Sensing the question she had in mind, he said, "No, it won't bring me back to life. If it was a matter of life and death, I think it'd most likely be that you died instead of me coming back."
"Oh," she said.
"Hermione, I need to tell you something right now. It's very important, so listen carefully and write it down when you wake up so you don't forget." he said seriously.
"What?" she asked. "What is it?"
"Firstly, I want you to promise me that no matter what happens, you will NEVER even think about killing yourself."
"I promise," she said solemnly.
"Secondly, I want you to listen to whatever Dumbledore tells you." A few tears leaked out of her eyes as she realized he was leaving in a minute.
"I promise."
"Thirdly... tell Ron and Ginny I said hello." he smiled. She laughed slightly through her tears.
"I promise," she said.
"One other thing..." he said.
"What's that?" she said softly.
"You won't forget me, will you?" he asked. She smiled.
"Never," she replied. He smiled.
"Hermione... I have to leave in a minute... but I have to tell you one thing before I go, and it's not easy for me." he said.
"What?" she asked. "You can tell me anything, you know that."
"Yes... I know that." he said. "What I have to tell you... I love you."
To his surprise and delight, she smiled. "You do?"
"Yes, I always have," he replied. "That day after fourth year when we were leaving King's Cross? When you kissed my cheek? I think that's when I started to notice it."
Hermione grinned, thinking back three years to that day. Had it really been that long?
"Mione, you have no idea how hard it is to sit here and not be able to touch you, or kiss you, or..." he trailed off. He seemed to be listening to something in his head. "I've got to go," he said abruptly. "Someone's coming. Goodbye, Hermione. I love you."
"I love you too," she said. "I really do. I miss you so much. It's not the same without you."
"Don't worry," he said. "I'll be back."
Hermione woke up suddenly.
"Hermione?" Ginny's voice said. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Hermione replied.
"It's almost time for class," Ginny said. "You overslept."
"Oh," Hermione said. She pulled on her uniform, thinking about Harry's parting words.
"I'll be back."
But he never came back. Hermione waited for him every night, until eventually she just gave up. She married Terry Boot when she was twenty-seven, and they had a daughter, Libby.
Hermione never forgot Harry, just as she'd promised. Every night, Libby requested that Hermione tell her a story about her, Harry, and Ron's adventures at Hogwarts. And as time passed, Libby knew them so well that she kept interjecting bits Hermione left out until Hermione suggested that Libby tell the story.
When the time came for Libby to go to Hogwarts, Hermione was reminded strongly of herself when she first set foot on the Hogwarts Express. Hermione was about to help Libby with her luggage when a boy with messy black hair and glasses offered to help her. Hermione saw the familiar green eyes behind the round spectacles and immediately got that strange feeling that comes with deja vu...
