Statement: Amorphic Forms |
My recent ceramic sculptures continue to explore some of the dualities that I find interesting in life. Dualities of geo metric / organic, male / female, attractiveness / repulsiveness, warm / cold, and soft / sharp. A successful work will be complex in that it will show the viewer the varied dualities that go into its make-up. While some may think that a successful work should resolve particular issues, I strive to set up 'visual difficulties' which may not provide a clearly defined answer or resolution. In my work pleasing and 'pretty' color may attract, yet shapes may make one feel uneasy. An organic flowing form may be rudely interrupted by a sharp cutting edge. A somewhat animal form or appendage may become a human appendage. At times, microscopic imagery may slowly lose its vantage and become something much larger..... |
Statement: Assembledges |
My assembledges represent a much more sub-conscious method of working on visual ideas. These representational images provide a mental balance to my non-representational pieces.
