Escaflowne Story
Warning: This is a fairly detailed synopsis of the story and pretty much details the entire story. If you don't like spoilers or being spoon fed the story don't continue.
Okay, so here's the story. It starts off with a shot of a floating airship followed by some beautiful shots of the sky and scenery. The camera speeds up moving through the sky going from the point of view of a falling man. Camera zooms out and a familar (sort of) character is shown falling through the sky. He comes to a thud on the floating airship and instantly dispatches a gaurd. The followning scene is of Van cutting down some gaurd and soldiers and basically taking over the airship. It is revealed that the airship is carrying something they refer to as the Dragon. Escaflowne is encased in rock and is refered to as the God of Battle, I think. Cut to earth and a flashback of Hitomi as a child having a bizarre encounter with a weird women. Hitomi is woken up by Yukari and the they hang out. Hitomi spouts about some stuff of being all "alone" or something and Yukari leaves. She is soon greated by Folken and is sent to Gaea where she awakens in Escaflowne. Van crashes the the airship and Escaflowne survives pursuing Van. Escaflowne spits (escreets is a better word prehaps) out Hitomi where she is greated by a not so pleasant Van believes her to be the Tsubasa no Kami (Kami meaning god and Tsubasa meaning wings so roughly translating to either God of Wings or Wing God, I can't remember which noun belongs to which). Escaflowne disappears and all that is left is a crystal (her pendant in the TV series). Van is not happy that all his hard work of acquiring Escaflowne was for nothing and attempts to kill Hitomi. He is interupted by Allen and a sword fight insues. Allen is of course victorious (with a little help) and Hitomi is spared. Having forgetting to mention this I'll do that now: Van and Merle are part of Allens crew and they are searching for the Tsubasa no Kami and Escaflowne to help turn the war against Folken. Hitomi is brought abord Allens ship or cruiser or whatever and some bonding goes on between Hitomi and Millerna as well as Van. A relationship blooms between Van and Hitomi seeing as they both seem to be "alone". The ship is attacked by Dilandau and his group and Hitomi is kidnapped. Van gives chase and battles it out with Dilandau using magic. It's a pretty weird scene but gorgeous to behold. Van and Dilandau are injured and the battle ends neither side victorious. Van and Hitomi rest up in a near by village where more romance blooms and then they meet up with Allen and the gang later. Folken launches his new weapon (a Guymelef) with Dilandau as the pilot. Escaflowne reappears and Van pilots it. You can see the major differance in Escaflowne here were Van puts on Escaflowne in a bizzare manner. The organics attach themselves to Van. Another fight between Van and Dilandau rages but this time in their Guymelefs. Remember the short clip of two Guymelefs in the opening song battling it out in the original series? Well, picture a whole fight done like that. Needless to say it was drop dead awesome to watch. Van is victorious but something strange happens to Escaflowne. Escaflowne is completely black and on a rampage but with the help of Hitomi he is brought back to normal. "Please, I wan't to be able to see your face once more" or something like that brings back Van's consciousness. Escaflowne transforms to Dragon form and flies away for a final showdown with Folken. A battle is waged with Van saying "I don't want to fight anymore" and Folken prepares for a final blow when Jajuka faces off with him ending in both warriors dying. Peace returns the bad guys a finished and Hitomi and Van get some quiet time. The romance between them hightens as Hitomi mysteriously vanishes and the movie ends. Yup, pretty weird stuff.
