Brutus, friend or foe, on many occasions Brutus has been known to "help" Xena then betray her.  Finally Xena and Brutus come to agreement-to kill Caeser, Brutus leads the others and tells them of Caeser's eagerness to become the Emporer of Rome, and so they kill him and end his reign of terror.  Brutus however does get on Xena's bad side when he kills Ephiny, thus bringing his life to an end.
