The Key

I stand in the midst of a lush, green valley.

I am surrounded by several grand trees and plants.

The trees seem to touch the great azure sky.

Their highest branches seem to grasp the small, white clouds.

Several brightly coloured birds decorate the great trees.

Their sweet melodies blend into one glorious harmony.

Millions of tiny, radiantly coloured flowers cloak the valley floor.

Before me lies a long, winding, dusty path.

slowly walk down the path, gazing at the awesome scenery.

The wind rustles through my hair.

The path comes to an end at the bank of a small lake.

I peer into the shallow, aquamarine water...

Several minute fishes swim past.

Wait... something lies just beneath the surface.

I reach down into the water and claim the object.

As I take a closer look, I realize it is small gold key.

There is an inscription on the key, but I am unable to read it.

I gently rinse off the key and now am able to read the message:

“This is a sacred key.  It is the key to pure joy.”

I blink several times in astonishment.

I turn the key over and notice another inscription:

“Only the true of heart shall have the gift this key holds.”

A few simple words, yet a most powerful warning.
