HOW TO PLAY
Much of the following information can be found at the game site in the How to Play Section and also at the RavenBlack Roleplay Forum - "Playing The Game" section.
As a vampire you need blood to stay alive. Your main prey are humans, tho you can also drink from other vampires. When you drink the blood of a human, you get from one to three pints, depending on the human's health (you can't tell how many until you drink), and whatever money the victim was carrying. You can also drain blood from other Vampires; you extract one pint, and can only do this once until they move (this does not mean they cannot be drunk from - another vampire can also take one drink). Vampires with less than 3 pints of blood cannot be drunk from.

ACTION POINTS
You have a maximum of 50 Action Points which recharge at the rate of one every half hour. Actions can currently be used to move to adjacent city squares (with the 'Move Here' links) or to drink the blood of victims in the same square as you. If you are out of action points, you cannot act until you have rested (wait half an hour).

COINS - WHY DO I NEED THEM?
Sometimes when you drain the blood of a human, you will gain whatever coins there were carrying. The amount of coins will vary from human to human. Some have none and some are quite wealthy. Currently, coins are useful to buy information from Pubs (buy a drink and the chatty bartender may give you some knowledge) or to use the Transit Stations.

THE CITY
The game is set in the nameless 'City' sometimes referred to as RavenBlack's City. This is where you as a vampire will stalk your prey (ie, humans and other vampires). Streets are indicated by grey squares, with signs at the intersections. Black squares between streets indicate blocks of buildings, which you can pass through in the alleyways.

WHY DO I SOMETIMES SEE A 'BLUE SQUARE'?
Blue squares indicate impassable regions - either they are overcrowded, on the edge of the city, or some other reason. Sometimes vampires call these blue squares a 'Haven' as once you are inside one, you cannot be bitten. For a square to be a 'Blue Haven' there must be 8 people inside.

BUILDINGS AND TRANSIT
Misc Buildings and Transit Stations are located throughout the City. The word is, the Buildings will be more useful soon. But the Transit Stations are opertational. BANKS, PUBS & LOCATIONS
Banks and Pubs are scattered throughout the city and are places where a vampire can 'buy' information. Just clink down a few coins to the bartender and you will find he'll become quite chatty. Banks and pubs are randomly placed throughout the City. Visit crime daMaph (the vampire c daMaph) Locations Map Generator to help you navigate the City streets and alleys.
Visit RavenBlack "A View In The Dark" Location Page - Here you will find the actual locations of all the Banks, Pubs, and Moving Guilds and Shops and much more. This site updated by the people for the people!

VAMPIRE STATS (Understanding the 'MY VAMPIRE' page aka "Lineage')
SIRE - WHAT IS A SIRE?
Your Sire is the Vampire who made you; You can think of them as your 'Parent'. Creating a new vampire (by bringing a friend to the game, via your biter link) gives you ten pints of blood.
CHILDER - What are 'Childer'?
Your Childer are your Children. Everytime someone uses your 'bite' link and signs up to the game, that person is considered to be your childer.
WHAT IS A 'MASTER VAMPIRE'? - Simply put, it means no one 'Sired' you. It sounds cooler than it is however and in the game, it's often more prestigious to be Sired by a powerful Vampire (ie, a vampire with a high Rank from a powerful Clan). If you really want to be a Master Vampire, then make a new account. More on Clans below.
WHAT IS MY 'CLAN'? -
The name of your Clan is that of the first Vampire in your family line,
the Master Vampire of your family. If no vampire created you, then you are the master of your line, so the Clan name belongs to you.

To see Clan Xeneri (a clan not started by me, but by longtime friend and childer, Dark Mooncalf), visit Ravenblack Roleplay - a discussion group for Vampires of Ravenblack where you may Roleplay in character, or just learn about how to play. The group can help you learn about how to play the game and discover who your ancestors are. And they are warm and friendly too. Founder is Dark Mooncalf of Clan Xeneri.

WHAT ARE THE 'POWERS'?
Some Vampires have special Powers (either as a thank-you for donating to the server costs, or acquired somehow in the City). Some of these powers can be aquired through specialized Guilds.
P>
The available powers are as follows:
- Celerity (3 Levels Available): the Vampire's action points normally recharge once every 30 minutes. Each level of Celerity reduces this by 5 minutes.
- Suction: the Vampire can extract 2 pints of blood from a Vampiric victim rather than 1.
- Surprise: the Vampire can enter a square that would usually be considered overcrowded.
- Stamina (3 Levels Available): the Vampire usually has a 50 Action Point maximum. Each level of Stamina increases this by 10. Stamina also affords extra resistance against some attacks.
- Shadows (3 Levels Available): Vampires usually disappear from sight if they don't move for 4 days. For each level of Shadows, a Vampire disappears one day sooner.
- Locate (3 Levels Available): Using Locate, you can find out where a Vampire is. At level one you can only tell distance; at level two you can tell distance and direction; at level three you can tell exact location. Uses one action point per target. Used from the "More Commands" screen.
- Thievery (3 Levels Available): At level one, up to 25% of the target's money can be stolen; 50% at level two, 75% at level three. Higher levels also have their chance of failure decreased. A 'rob' option appears next to the usual 'drink' option if you have this power. (Available at the Thieves Guilds)
- Second-sight (available only to donating Vampires (at least $5), as it increases server load): the Vampire can examine the statistics of other Vampires. Uses half an action point per target. Used by clicking on the name of the target vampire.
* There is also the power of Neutrality, which is a two-edged power; it prevents you from using Holy Water, but also reduces damage done to you by Holy Water (reduced to 1, with Neutrality-3). It also prevents damage from Scrolls of Turning used by or on you. When a Neutral vampire robs a non-Neutral, or vice-versa, half their take is claimed by the Peacekeepers Guild.
Similarly, BattleCloak makes a vampire only able to engage in combat with other BattleCloaked vampires, though it doesn't effect Thievery or biting. A BattleCloaked vampire goes into Torpor if their blood goes below 10, which makes them unable to engage or be engaged in combat at all. Torpor ends when blood goes above 250.

WHAT ARE 'GUILDS'?
Guilds are highly secret places which will allow you to acquire some of the powers mentioned above -- but at a cash price. Guilds are frequently 'on the move' which means they only stay in one location for a few days before moving on. Once again, the bartenders have the gossip. Please note - each Guild has a level of 1, 2 or 3 corresponding to the appropriate Power level. In other words, if you want the Thieving Power, you need to start at Level 1 and can only get it at a Level 1 Thieves guild. Make sense?
Visit RavenBlack "A View In The Dark" Location Page - For up to date coverage on Moving Guild Locations and much more. This site updated by the people for the people!
Below are some examples of Guilds and what powers they offer:
- Empath's Guild 1-3: Offers the Surprise & Locate powers. Cost depends on the level. They're another mobile secret guild, what with their lessons only working for people who can afford to spill the entire blood-content of a mortal in one go. Humans don't look too kindly on this sort of 'cult'.
- Immolators Guild 1-3: Offers the Stamina & Suction powers. Cost depends on the level.
- Thieves Guild 1-3: Offers the Thievery & Shadow powers. Cost depends on the level.

WHAT ARE THE 'MORE' COMMANDS?
The 'More Commands' link beneath the city display provides extra options that your vampire can perform. Currently, you can speak using this. Every vampire in your square will hear what you say. This costs one action point.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Have you received an Error Message saying you have been 'hitting this page too many times in 24
hours' ? It means you have gone to your page too many times, and are overloading
the server. Try leaving it alone for roughly several hours, and it will
go away. The message will not effect your biter links.
