Ever since Jerri could remember she had always lived in an orphanage. She knew nothing about her biological parents or any relatives. All Jerri knew was that she was alone and without a friend in a world full of hate and destruction. Jerri was a loner and kept to herself most of time. She made no friends at the orphanage. Jerri really didn't care at the time. She hated the other kids and they all hated her back. At the orphanage, Jerri was considered to be the 'bully'. She would always beat up on the weaklings and the newcomers. Every kid knew that Jerri was the boss. If you didn't obey her, she would beat you into a bloody pulp. The real reason for her actions was that she wanted and needed the attention. The caretakers at the orphanage could not handle or tolerate her. They thought it would be best if she went away and so on her 12th birthday they announced their decision to Jerri. After throwing together a small party for Jerri's birthday, they called her to the office away! From the other children.

"Miss Hiratome...you called to me?" asked Jerri as she entered the office full of the orphanage's employees.

Miss Hiratome, the owner of the orphanage, smiled to her and nodded. "Yes, Jerri. I called, please sit down."

Jerri took her seat on of the old wooden chairs. These chair are so hard and uncomfortable she thought to herself. Then she looked at Miss Hiratome and the other employees with a puzzled look on her face. "Huh? What did I do this time?"

Some of the workers smiled and shook their heads. Miss Hiratome knelt at Jerri's side. "No, Jerri...you've done nothing wrong. We just need to tell you something important." She paused for a moment and sighed. "Jerri, you've been causing too much havoc lately. We've tried so hard to tolerate you, but you're getting to be too much. I'm afraid we've decided to let a military school. The other employees and I have saved up enough money for you to go. I...I'm sorry dear."
Miss Hiratome looked at Jerri's face to watch her reaction. She expected tears, but instead got an expressionless look.

"I understand, Miss Hiratome. I'll pack up and leave." Jerri slowly got up from the chair and started for the door, but Miss Hiratome placed her hand on her shoulder. "Jerri, before you I want you to take this. It belongs to you," she said as she handed Jerri a small silver chain with a red stone. "You wore it around you neck when we found you first came here as an infant."

Jerri took the necklace in her hand and felt the cold stone against her skin. There were some symbols marked on it, but she couldn't decipher them. Her lips formed a small smile as she put the necklace on. Wearing it gave her hope of finding her true parents one day. She would make it her goal to some day meet them.
On the same day, Jerri packed her belongings and left for the military school. There she was taught discipline. Jerri actually liked it at the school, but when the Riovis started their attack she had to go to a military training camp.
