Privacy

In a society where material possessions may be in short supply, and even a rich person's house may be a tent, privacy is a luxury supplied by the good manners of others. Why, you may ask, are these viznagim (cacti) growing in this particular spot, so near a tent? The answer is simple, and subtle. While not thick enough to form an actual fence, they mark a point which the householder of the tent in question wishes others not to approach any more closely than Xi'a is shown standing. To actually plant viznagim as a fence, though it might be done elsewhere, would seem inhospitable in the crowded city, and so only a few are left growing as a hint. Every native of Khar Th'Sekt, and all true Children of the Sands understand this convention, and are careful not to place themselves deliberately where they might overhear domestic conversations and private activities carried out in the rear portions of a dwelling.
