On the ground by this woman's feet is a latched (and locked) wooden storage chest of Irekei design and hand-craftsmanship. The pointed flanges at the corners are not handles, but rather designed to keep this container from being easily picked up and carried off. The real handles to this chest will be kept separately by the owner, and will slip into slots at the sides and lock into place when and if it is necessary to move it. An item like this is rarely seen outside of cities, as the nomadic Irekei of the open virakar prefer to keep their belongings in baskets or bundles, and have fewer casually passing strangers about to make such security measures necessary.
