»What was the need it met?
The need the computer met was the need of quick information access. With the computer allowing storage to be held, and once the World Wide Web was operational, information could be processed at the speed of light. People no longer had to wait months to know about the latest information, even if it was around the world (internet). But without the computer, the internet would not function.
Many needs are connected to the computer, but the major ones are the ones people recognize. People know that the computer can process information, find the answer to problems, even make everyday trips to a store much easier by just purchasing online and going to pick it up. But back in the day, bringing the computer to this ability was a long, hard process.
When the computer was first developed, it did nothing much except process information with a monitor. WIthout one, what could it do but hold information? Having a computer was much handier than having a stack of papers.
