| The Rebellion of Youthh |
| Young people are searching for a reason that makes life meaningful. This generation has become seriously disillusioned with the hollowness it has inherited from it’s parent’s generation and feel that without greater purpose, life becomes a meaningless unconnected series of events. Not since the Sixties has ‘Youth Culture’ witnessed such a restless and sometimes blind need for fulfilment as there is today. The almost insane cry of youth’s idealism comes from a very pure place no matter how outrageous it may seem to adult sensibilities. We must recognise that the sound of youthful rebellion is the sound of a young and vibrant energy crying out searching for guidance it must not be suffocated of repressed. Just as the human body's immune system will reject a foreign substance, so too the youthful soul rejects the emptiness of today’s culture. Never before has this energy of youth had no real means of expression. Never before have young people been so hungry for meaning and even many of today's adults have retained that hunger from their own youth. To satisfy this hunger we must recognise that it is nether spiritual nor material in nature but something that is of relevance to our very existential situation. It is true that youthful rebellion has led to some extremes that are in themselves unhealthy but why did the rebellion take place in the first place? young people are saying to society, that We are just not happy with the MTV- creature comforts that you are passing on. We want something deeper. We want a world with meaning and true value. Young people throughout the world are trying to figure out where they fit in and what they are supposed to do with their lives. The time is right to launch an all-out offensive against complacency and indifference. The key is to take the offensive to generate a revolution against the tide of mediocrity. The hope for real change throughout the world is not something we must leave up to any higher powers but the responsibility rests on us. The fire of youth must he used not just to build careers but to build real homes and communities based on love and giving. We must help create a true revolu-tion -an inner revolution of virtue and integrity. "Take that energy and do try to change the world for the better.” We must continue to spread this message of positively through publishing student newspapers, establish-ing charitable groups and by taking advantage of modern technology to reach as many people as possible. With a combination of sincere conviction and enthusiasm we can influence the hearts and minds of many with a message of hope and truth. Don't just accept the status quo. Don't stand by and tolerate injustice. Fight not simply out of duty, but with the zeal of someone who is in search of a truly significant life. In a positive way, we should indeed "put the elderly to shame" -by storming the halls of vanity and selfishness. By rebelling against injustice and hypocrisy. By insisting that each one of us can and must make a difference. ‘Very Adapted’ from ‘Toward a meaningful life.' (without permition) |
