What is a Learning Disability? A learning disability is a disorder that affects your ability to learn and interpret information. People who have learning disabilities usually have difficulty with speech, reading, coordination and paying attention. Learning disabilities are usually not detected until children reach school age. During this period children may become frustrated at simple tasks and may seem to be disruptive or slow in relation to the rest of their class. The most problematic learning disability that people have is difficulty in reading. According to the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development 85% of individuals classified with a learning disability have problems in this area.
