Mutant Powers: Colossus has the ability to convert the tissue of his body into organic steel, granting him superhuman strength (able to lift up to 70 tons) and resistance to physical harm. He as able to transform into this armoured form at will and remain in that state for an undetermined period of time. If he is
rendered unconscious, he instantly reverts back to his normal form.
Colossus cannot become partially armoured; he must either be fully armoured or not at all. Even his eyes become steel-like, able to deflect .45 calibre bullets. His armoured body is capable of resisting penetration up to a 110mm Howitzer shell. He is also capable of withstanding adverse temperatures although it is theorized that his armour would begin to melt at extremely high temperatures.
He has also shown the ability to go without oxygen while in his armoured form. His speed and endurance are also increased
while armoured.
History: Piotr Rasputin was born on a Soviet collective farm in Siberia. His mutant powers forst appeared in his adolescence. At first he was content to use his powers to aid the people of the Collective. Piotr was contacted by Charles Xavier when he began recruiting his new team of X-Men. Piotr agreed to leave the farm he was born on and travel to the United States with Xavier.
Here he was given the codename Colossus by Xavier and aided the new X-Men against Krakoa to rescue the original team. After the battle was over Colossus decided to stay with the X-Men while his family remained on the farm. His family always remained close to his heart and shortly afterwards his sister Illyana was kidnapped by Miss Locke, along with many of the teams loved ones in order to force the X-Men to assist her in freeing Arcade from Doctor Doom's robots. The X-Men freed Illyana and she went to live with Piotr in Xavier's mansion. Due to a period of years spent in the dimension known as Limbo, while only a few moments passed on Earth, she became the adolescent sorceress known as Magik.
When she was returned to her true age, Colossus thought it best if Illyana returned to her home in Siberia. Unfortunately her
parents were slain and she was kidnapped by the Soul Skinner who hoped to age her to the point where she would have access to her powers again. Colossus and the X-Men saved Illyana again and she returned to the mansion to live.
Later she was the first victim of the Legacy Virus, from which she subsequently died. Following the deaths of his immediate family, Colossus began to rethink his position within the X-Men and left to join Magneto and his Acolytes.
He did not remain with Magneto long, realizing that Avalon was not the place for him either. He left to search for Kitty Pryde, the only person he felt truly cared for him. Colossus travelled to England where he found Kitty with her new love, Pete Wisdom. Colossus became enraged and attacked Wisdom, which left both of them with minor injuries after a short battle.
Colossus soon accpeted Kitty's new life and chose to join Excalibur with her, where he remained until the team disbanded. He has since returned to the X-Men with his fellow Excalibur team-mates Kitty and Nightcrawler.
