Alrite, so if you're on this site you should alreay know who afi are and what hey're all about, BUT since a surge of new AFI fas are comming, I thought it was best to explain all of this.

AFI is one of the best bands around right now. They take elements of goth, punk, new wave, and now even techno to get their unique sound. AFI began in 1991 when lead singer, Davey Havok, and his friends: Adam Carson (drums) Geoff Kresege (bass), and Mark guitar), were still in high school. A local lable caled Key Lime Pie records signed the garage band. They made their first wave of eps (the Dork EP, Fly In the Ointment, This is Berkely Not West Bay, etc.) which are now very rare and difficult to find. A few years later, the band released their first cd on Nitro Records, "Answer That and Stay Fashionable". The follow up to ATASF was called Very Proud of Ya. These cds didn't get much attention, and the band has matured much since then. Their next cd was a pre-cursor to the darker melodic sound that they would soon have. It was called "Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes". It featured a new bassist, Hunter Burgan. Geoff had quit the band an is now in the psychobilly band, Tiger Army. Shut your mouth had introduced AFI's fans to a new, more mature sound. Davey's voice grew stronger, and his song wriing went from "I wanna get a mohawk" to "We are the ones with radiating eyes". However, AFI's most significant change began with their new guitarist Jade Puget and the cd "Black Sails in the sunset". Black sails is AFI's most significant CD. It was the begining of a cult of fans, a new genre of music, and even a church. Although the CD did not recieve as much attention as it deserved, it definately took the band in a completely new direction. Their next full-length cd, "The Art of Drowning" fetured the band's first mainstram release, "days of the Phoenix". AOD once again opened the door to new fans, but the band would never expect the fame they would get on their next full length. "Sing the Sorrow" was AFI's first release on a major lable, Dreamworks. With the realease of the first single "Girls not grey", the band was featured on mainstream rock radio stations,MTV, MTV2, and Fuse. Finally, after twelve long years of little recognition, AFI had become a household name. They even recieved an MTV award for the video for Girls not Grey. Athough AFI gained many new fans with their major release, they also lost many. People said they "sold out". However, AFI wil always have a faithful following of Fall Children.
