He Ain't Heavy

He Ain't Heavy - Front View     He Ain't Heavy - Rear View

A high school art class project, this piece was inspired by a line in an Erasure song, "He ain't heavy, He's my brother..."

The statuette is made of two wire skeletons wrapped with Plaster-Gauze strips which have been molded to form the body and clothing. The base is wood: coated with plaster, shaped into steps.

The entirety holds a coat of gold paint covered mostly by a thin layer of brown, which gives it a nice bronzed effect.

Constructing this took me a lot of time. The shaping of the upright character came first and the 'brother' was added as an afterthought. Attaching it to the base took me countless attempts and repairs to get it to stand at all.
