Created from red clay (my high school art class final project), this was one of my most challenging and time-consuming works. Being a perfectionist, I became extremely devoted to the challenge of building and maintaining the sculpture.
The entire piece is hollow, for if I had not made it so, it would have exploded in the first firing. Because of this fact, maintaining the stability of the sculpture prior to firing was nearly impossible. I had to rebuild it more than twenty times!
Six coats of amber glaze brought it to the deep brown seen here...
