The latest XODI rankings fall in the middle of the ICC World Cup, which has already seen the elimination of Asian powerhouses India and Pakistan. It has also seen a change at the top of the rankings for the first time since they began four years ago. A poor run of form by Australia, losing the finals of its home tri-nation series to England then being whitewashed 3-0 by New Zealand saw them drop below South Africa on the rankings. Although the Aussies managed to beat South Africa in the group stages of the World Cup, it only narrowed the gap rather than reclaimed top spot. With both sides likely to feature in the semi-finals of the World Cup, the results at that end of the tournament will probably determine who leads the rankings at the next update.
New Zealand and England both climbed the rankings on the back of their victories over Australia. Good wins by India over the West Indies and Sri Lanka prior to the World Cup also saw them increase their rating despite being bundled out of the World Cup in the group stage by Bangladesh.
Ireland also increased its rating thanks to a win over Pakistan and a tie with Zimbabwe. They leapfrogged Netherlands and Scotland to take 12th spot, their highest ever ranking. Bermuda, despite being hopelessly outclassed in all its games in the tournament, managed a very slight increase in its rating, an indication that its relative rating compared to other teams is probably about right.
