Twelve "minnows" of world cricket played off in July for five places in 2007 World Cup. Scotland took out the title for the first time beating hosts Ireland in the final. Joining them at the World Cup will be Canada, Bermuda and the Netherlands. Scotland's win increased their rating by nearly 200 points, the biggest increase of any team during the quarter, and lifted them past Ireland and Namibia in the rankings. All five teams will receive substantial development money over the next 18 months or so and will play in officially sanctioned one-day internationals along with Kenya.
The test nations were relatively quiet. Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh and the West Indies in a triangular tournament while New Zealand beat India and Zimbabwe. Australia beat England in the Natwest Challenge but that was soon forgotten as England beat Australia in the Ashes. Because test match results aren't included in these rankings, England hasn't improved its position as much as many might expect it too.
Other minor trophies played during the quarter included the ECC Affiliates Trophy, won by Norway, and the EAP Cricket Cup, won by Japan. These tournaments introduced four new teams to these rankings: Cook Islands, Vanuatu, Isle of Man and Samoa.
Teams highlighted in yellow are those who played matches in this quarter.
