“Fraternity
/fre’tuhniti/ noun (pl fraternities) 1) group of people associated or
formally organized for a common purpose, interest or pleasure.”
And that’s what they are. A group of nineteen-year-old guys doing what
they love best: making music. Chris Watts, on lead guitar and vocals; Steve
Strong, on drums; and Baz, on bass and also vocals.
Fraternity have been around since 2000, but recently, 4 years after they first formed (with the original line up of Dan Couling on lead guitar), have re-launched their band, arriving with a new web site, a new CD, and a whole new load of songs. Much to the pleasure of their fans, Plymouth based and others.
“We’ve been re writing and developing a new sound,” says drummer Steve Strong, “which has been a lot of fun and is really exciting for the band.”
They’ve had an exciting past, supporting the likes of Longview at Tramps Café last year; they’ve also played with bands such as Caffeine, Four Foot Fingers and Jerry Built, building up a good reputation locally and otherwise. Their re-launch gig was on the 28th February at Tramps Café, which was a great success despite friendly-rival venue the Phoenix having a big gig the same night.
And the future looks just as bright. They’ve been chosen to do the soundtrack of a national play going to Brighton Westend, “The Shape of Things”, beating refreshing new band Franz Ferdinand for the honour, with their song “Forever” - a compelling listen with a catchy guitar riff and mature, heart-felt vocals, complementing the feel of the song. They’re looking forward to many more gig opportunities too, with a new CD on the horizon.
Good luck to Fraternity in the future, and Plymouth hopes to see a lot more of them. Help show your support by logging onto www.fraternityweb.co.uk
