Tonight's gig consisted of 4 bands - each playing totally different music to each other. A night of 2 halves!
First to hit the stage was local band No Logic who pulled off a decent performance despite not being my style. The lead singer was all over the place and did actually have great stage presence which took my eyes off what the rest were doing. Although they are a totally emo band which isn't my scene at all they impressed me with very well written guitar riffs. The only downside was the drumming as it was kind of off beat alot and also they had "technical difficulties" which consequently lead to a short set.
Second band of the night were the Sweet Black Angels who didnt impress me at all. They seemed to be going for a late 60's/ early 70's kind of sound with clear influences from bands like Pearl Jam and others in the 'grunge' genre. Some of the sounds were quite catchy but only because they reminded me of old Vietnam movies! Although they had no problems and played their set well there was nothing that caught my interest for them.
3rd band of the night were The Hombres and I also think that these guys weren't too great. Although they had a very original sound introducing the acoustic guitar into the midst of distorted guitar the rest of the performance wasn't very striking. The singing sounded a little off as well and the vocals needed working on. I cannot compare these guys to any other bands because they were very original yet nothing special.
The last band of the night were 11 Lives Left who were very different to the other bands and had kind of a punky/old school rock sort of sound. Although I only caught some of their set what i did see was very interesting with the drummer getting up and messing around after songs. There were no downfalls to this band and they were unique with a wide variety of inspirations in my view because I could not distinguish any bands that they could be related to! It was a decent performance.
The gig had interesting bands here yet wasn't the best gig I've been to by a long shot and as I said previously, it was a gig of 2 halves with No Logic and 11 Lives Left raising the roof and the other two bands slightly bringing it down on us all! Overall, though, a good night and I expect 11 Lives Left to be returning soon as they are playing with Jet Plane Landing!
