The evening began with a female singer, Lucy Silvers - a Christina Aguilera soundy-likey. She sang six songs from her forthcoming album (which is out in October). The songs had great lyrics backed up by a great voice.
Next up was Tom Baxter - he had a really individual style, nothing like Jamie Cullum or Lucy. He wasn't really to my taste - too indie and too much of an unusual voice. However, he was very good, and the crowd were well up for Jamie taking to the stage!
He was greeted with a cheer from the audience as he walked up through the crowd to the stage. screams and shouts of "We love you Jamie - come over here!!" were deafening. After removing his shoes (for some strange reason), he sat down at the piano and began with 'I Get A Kick Out Of You'. More songs from his album 'Twenty Something' followed, often starting with him banging out some drum beat on the piano! He gave an impressive and energetic performance, inviting the audience to participate in singing, quite appropriately for Plymouth, 'Singing In The Rain'! But the definite highlight of his set was 'These Are The Days', written by his brother, which was played beautifully.
Overall, everyone enjoyed the night - and you wouldn't need to ask me twice to see Jamie again!
