Plymouth Festival finally arrived! After putting up my lickle tent (well, making the “men” put it up for me) and getting started on my good ole Fosters, I wandered down the hill to go see my first band of the weekend. I mainly stayed in the Rocksound tent the whole weekend, so I apologise for anyone else who want to see other band types, but I did catch a little of The Blockheads who were pretty cool despite playing without the legendary Ian Drury.

Loggerhead were up first. I wasn’t surprised they were on the bill, but I was surprised so few people were in there watching them. I suppose people were still having trouble with putting up their tents in the rain….but still, no excuse. They seemed real comfortable on a stage larger to the likes such as the Phoenix, and really put all their body and soul into it, and played a tight set with only a few flaws. They certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves, and I have a suspicion that if Plymouth Festival returns next year, they may possibly be higher up on the bill. Also, while I’m writing about them, big thanks to Foz who tried to help me fix the zip on my tent – unsuccessfully but cheers all the same!

Next up were Koala Attack. As always, this band were hectic and full of energy and the crowd thoroughly seemed to enjoy them. Driving guitar riffs and fast paced drum beats filled the tent and the raunchy singing was as always very impressive. They were once described as a “full on stage show” – and I think this I the best way to describe them!

No Comply had the tent filled to the rafters, which didn’t come as much as a surprise. They pulled off an amazing set and to everyone moving around like hooligans. The visual aspect of this band is fucking extreme and makes them such an awesome band to see live. Their music has taken a much heavier side since their last CD, and was so emotional and energetic everyone was buzzing. There’s something about seeing a band like this that make you want to cry – for all the right reasons. After seeing the, I wasn’t sure anyone could top their set.

Unfortunately, I missed most of Amplifier, but what I did see I wasn’t really amazed by. A ‘post-classic rock’ band from Manchester; they delivered some interesting and tight guitar riffs, but I wasn’t overly impressed. Perhaps I needed to see more of them, but their set really lacked something.

Last band to grace the stage were Friday’s headliners, 3 Colours Red. I’d been looking forward to this band – enjoyed what I had heard of them (which admittedly isn’t a lot), and was looking forward to seeing them live. Sadly, they didn’t live up to my expectations – they didn’t seem to really be enjoying it, and there wasn’t a lot of stage presence from these guys. It was almost like they couldn’t really be bothered doing what they were doing, and just went through their set without any real enthusiasm.

Overall it was a good first night. Most people weren’t quite up for as much crazy dancing as I’d hoped, but still….they had a whole 24 hours to get drunk till the next night began…
