First band of the evening were NoFX! Well, maybe not, but you’d be forgiven for mistaking Wanted For Fraud, a self-confessed group of emo-hating punks, with the anarchist old-skool punk band. They began with NoFX cover ‘Leave It Alone’, and also included the likes of ‘Sticking In My Eye’ in their set, as well as a few of their own songs. I’ve never seen Wanted For Fraud before, but was very impressed with the drummer, and especially with the lead guitarist who, despite being two feet tall – and don’t take offence, I’m vertically challenged myself! – gave an impressive performance with some fucking impressive solos.

Next were SLOT, who must be one of the most popular punk bands around in Plymouth at the moment, but sadly, it wasn’t a good night for them. They didn’t seem to be quite together, with no set list to speak of, or even a clue as to what order things were going in! ‘Punk Rock Pirates’, the band’s own favourite song, was screwed up well and truly, with someone (naming no names, TinHed!) probably being a little too drunk to remember how the drums went. Still, despite not being on top form, they kept up the amusing SLOT banter and completely took the piss out of themselves – basically handling it as well as they could. Hopefully this Friday will go better…

Next up were Sharia Law, a punk-metal three piece band. They weren’t overly impressive, and seemed rather repetitive. They didn’t get the crowd going – in fact, the only people dancing were headliners, Uncle Brian.

Uncle Brian, also, were not very good. I was expecting them to be real good, but they disappointed everyone there as well as me. Hardly anyone was dancing; most people were either at the bar, or outside of the Phoenix. It was a shame because I think this was quite an anticipated gig, and it was pretty bad. It’s not nice writing bad reviews, but in this case I had no choice! It must have been something in the water, or something, since the night didn’t go so well!
