referred to as the scymitar and scimiter. The scimitar is a
middle eastern sword characterized by a broad, curved blade
ending in a uniquely upturned point. While most associate a
scimitar with the broad bladed weapons popularized by the Tales
of
Sinbad, many scimitars were actually rather narrow bladed weapons
along the lines of the Indian shamshir or Persian talwar. The
Turkish scimitar is probably the most well-recognized examples
of the weapon and the broadest tip of any scimitar style weapon.
The falchion developed in part from the scimitar design (and
also from the Egyptian khopesh). The style and function of the
scimitar was most recently displayed the European cutlass.
