Review
Well, this was a weird concert for my second TMBG concert. I went with my friend Emma, and her sister and sister's friend. It was WLIR's Anniversary Show or something like that and it was featuring Howard Jones, this 80's pop star or something like that, not TMBG. So...They only played nine songs, and there were two opening bands, both of which sucked.
The evening started out pretty badly. The show was slated to start at 7, and we got there at 6:30, so we were afraid that we'd be all the way in the back or something like that...however, it seems that Howard Jones fans don't get to concerts early, because there was almost no one there when we got there, and we got into the second row. This was the first time I'd met Chris, so that was fun, but he was really the only person we knew that was there. Surprisingly, neither Rob and Laura nor TDK were there. However, there was a family of TMBG fans, which was cool. The mom had a pink album LP with her, the teenage son was wearing a TMBG shirt and hat, and the 10 year old son was also wearing a TMBG shirt. It was beautiful.
There were two opening bands, called Stage and...um...something else, but it was a chick singing country-ish stuff with a backup band. Each played three songs, and both pretty much sucked. Flans was wearing a Stage shirt, though, which was pretty funny. Stage was like Creed, but a lot worse, if that is possible.
They Might Be Giants played for about a half hour, I think. Maybe a little longer. It was way too short, though. I remember that, when they finished, I said, "Uh....that's it?" It was nice to hear MISLIH live for the first time. I really hated that song at first, but I've become rather fond of it lately. Also, it was the first time I'd seen the children's version of Robot Parade live. That was fun. I think that Don't Let's Start was the best, though.
We didn't really feel it necessary to stay for Howard Jones, so, I'm sure to the relief of the people in front of us, left after TMBG. They were selling all sorts of goodies. I got a wool hat, a wallet, and the Working Undercover for the Man EP, which I previously had only on MP3. We actually got a chance to talk to Danny Weinkauf afterwards. We congratulated him on his baby, and Chris got a picture of us with him. You can see it here. (The people are Chris, me, Danny, Emma, Thea) We drove Chris to the train station, had dinner at 1am, and slept well. The concert kinda sucked, but...what're you going to do?
