Let me start off by saying that I just got into OK Go a few months ago (October-ish, i think), though I've known of them for a while, and already, they are one of my absolute favourite bands. Except, they're a favourite that I actually listen to. Other constant favourites, that are always up there in the top 4 or 5 (TMBG, Ween, Moxy Früvous, eels...) I don't really listen to. But, even though OK Go only has one CD, I cannot stop listening to it. They are amazing.
ANYWAY...this show was "5 bands for 5 bucks". The complete lineup was Faulter, Brand New, Maroon 5, Authority Zero, OK Go with OK Go sorta headlining. We actually got there 15 minutes after the doors opened. We waited in the car, because we figured we were already late and it was freezing outside. We missed the first band, Faulter, but that's ok, because we were only on line for 5 minutes.
On Don't Ask Me, Damian had this drum set up in front, and he played the opening drum part...it was sooo cool. Unrequited Orchestra had some technical difficulties. I think Damian's guitar stopped working, so that song got a little messed up, but nothing horrible. It was still fun. Burleigh had the awesomest little dances. He had a Tambourine Dance, which was great, and also this weird thing with drumsticks where...I can't explain it, but it was very funny. Excellent. Not too much banter, really. Damian said that it was his first show without his cast (he had broken his leg) and it felt "fucking great" or something to that extent.
After the show, I went to get merchandise. I got a shirt, their two EPs, and a Chica-go-go tape (sooo hilarious, but I won't waste space describing it). Damian was right there, but there were swarms of teenage girls around him (sometimes I really hate being a teenage girl). We did manage to catch him, and he signed my liner notes for me. I gave him a gold star. You know, those stickers...I said, "Damian, would you like a gold star, because you're that cool?" and he said, "Sure! Put it here, darlin'!" :) and I got to put it on Damian's shirt. I won't go into how cool that was. We needed to find the other guys, though, so we checked back inside the concert hall thingie, and sure enough, there were Tim, Burleigh, and Dan. (no Andy! grr) We talked to Tim for a while, and I got my Tim Nordwind Fan Club Offical Title: The Official Dean of Tim Nordwind University. (I'm TNFC member #87) Tim was so fucking cool. He was awesome. That's all I can say. Words don't describe the awesomeness of Tim. We then were confronted by Dan. He was a little drunk, I must say. He asked our named when we asked him to sign stuff, and when I said my name was Jessie, he started singing "Jesse's Girl". hehe He kept hugging me. Oh, well. I have no problem with this. Next came Burleigh. We talked to Burleigh for quite a while. I think he kind of feels left out because Damian gets so much attention...he was super-cool. I talked to him about the message board and stuff for quite a while.
Hope I didn't bore too much. Overall, an excellent show. I can't wait to see them again. Not only to they rock to the 7th limit, they are also really nice and funny guys.
Brand New was great. I don't know much of their stuff, but they were very cute, and they really do have good music, though it's not exactly my sort of thing. They had a lot of energy, and I enjoyed them. I'd never heard of Maroon 5, but they had quite the following there. Between Brand New and Maroon 5, my friends and I managed to push our way pretty far up front. Maroon 5 was awesome. They were just....really really good, even though I'd never before heard them. I saw Damian (the lead singer from OK Go) rocking out on the side of the stage during their set. Authority Zero disappointed me. Their fans were very hardcore, and violent. Their music was also very hardcore and violent. I was not enjoying myself. However, they made up for it when they played "La Bamba".
OK Go came on at around 11:00. For their set, I managed to get up into the second row, and the first row for their encore. They were...amazing. There is no other way to describe them. This was their first show after a long break, and Damian later described it as not very good, but I don't know what the shows he considers good are like, because this was awe-inspiring. I have absolutely no idea what the order of songs was, but I know all of the songs they played:
Hello My Treacherous Friends
Don't Ask Me
1000 mph
Get Over It
Jesse's Girl (cover)
Unrequited Orchestra of Locomotion
It's Tough To Have a Crush
Bye Bye Baby
You're So Damn Hot
**encore**
Return
(some cover I didn't recognise)
