Introduction
Here is part of the story behind the club. For a full history on the DragonHaven, please see the "History" section.
The land of Fyre was always a peaceful world. Gentle, beautiful creatures traveled the forests, the plains, the oceans, and the skies.
Among them were the most rare, beautiful, and wonderful creatures of all. They weren't really creatures; the all had a people, a soul and a nimble mind.
They were known universally as the Guardians.
There were four Guardians: The Griffin, a military general at hatching or birth, a canny fighter, yet at times, foolishly dangerous; yet its wisdom of what the enemy might be thinking is invaluable;
The Unicorn: long of horn, wise in astrology, swiftest runner, fleet of hoof, a strong sense of honor and love, who only goes to war in order to keep anything from disrupting the order of the ecosystem;
The Sea Serpent: King or Queen of the Depths, subtle of mind, cold, impassionate, yet deeply fierce and like a smoldering fire just begging to burst into blaze, slow, yet quick; reflexes swift; annoying and full of riddles at the best of times;
And the Dragon: wise, gatherers of wisdom, canny fighters, yet sometimes too energetic and foolish in battle; lovers of riddles, easily provoked, a hoarder of precious things; yet gentle, humble, and friendly.
The land of Fyre, when glimpsed from far above, is shaped like a perfectly oval dragon egg. Rivers running into the Ocean of Forgetfulness and small scatterings of islands down at the bottom of the widest part of the land give it the illusion of an egg just about to hatch. On the far east, shadowing the islands, rise the jagged mountains in the Talon Range. Sometimes, they are called the Crescent Mountains. In the far west, there lies the deep, muted depths of the Greenleaf Forest. In the middle, there are the vast plains of the Hoofpound Plains. Around the north edges, there are white wastes, and around the south edges, there lay tropical paradises.
The Guardians had been there for five thousand years, chosen after a series of tests upon the Sentient Beings of Fyre. The four Guardians were to protect the innocent Sentients from harm, after an evil Elven Wizard opened horrible Portals and learned the meaning of power slew his apprentice, the unicorn foal D'tai. D'tai had pushed him into one of his own Portals and shut it with her own life energy.
Then, five thousand years after the event happened and the Guardians still train on their land, a horrible thing happens:
Something drops onto the Hoofpound Plains.
Any other Guardian would have slain the newcomers. But the peaceful Unicorns decided to give the New Ones a chance. With patience and love, Tellessa the Sage was able to learn the language. Their story was thus, in her words to the Unicorn Council:
"These things call themselves "Humans". They are all young-" here, she paused, then smiled, or in Unicorn terms, a flashing in the eye- "They are children. Eight to thirteen years they are. They come in a great yellow cylinder on circles called a "bus", and the four adults are Pair-Bonded to each other, and are of the ages of thirty, twenty-nine, thirty-four, and thirty-five." The Unicorn Council nodded; they love great descriptions, for it helps them in making decisions.
"They are scared and want to go home. They keep asking where they are, but do not know. They tell me they come from the planet of Earth, on the continent of North America, from different states upon a country called the United States."
The Unicorns nodded, the young foals watching with deep interest.
The Unicorns decided to keep the Human children. However, they did not know from whence they came, or what country or world they spoke of, and were confused, until wise Tellessa learned:
"They simply live in another dimension," she said. "Someone is opening some sort of gate between our world and theirs. This is not good at all- alert every Guardian you can find!"
A great council was erected in little time. A few clans of dragons came winging in with their dragonets clinging to the scales between their wings, Griffins burst from the clouds screaming wildly in ecstasy of their long flight, and Sea Serpents surfaced slowly and lay their great heads upon the beaches where the council would take place.
The dragonets, foals, chicks, and calves of the race were curious about the Humans, and so were the Humans about them. They got to know each other, and learned to talk to each other in the others' languages.
However, as one of the young dragons, named Twen, was walking with one of the little humans, he learned something amazing: Their minds were deceptively powerful within. As he talked to her, a wounded elf stumbled into camp, scaring all; and his mind surged out, finding Kerra's mind compatible instantly. The girl, Kerra, could actually talk to him telepathically through a mind link. They became like the closest siblings, never leaving each other. All of the Guardians were astounded, and each learned, as their children experimented, that every Guardian-- even the Sentient Friends-- could link minds with the humans and humanoids included. It is known as Mind Binding. When a Guardian wishes to have a companion, they can also have a Mission Bound Friend who travels with them where ever they go as a partner. (See The Bond for more information on Bonding.)
