23 channel PLL02A mods
Simple mod for lower channels

The radio shown in both mods on this page
is different from 40 channel radios with
PLL02A chip, these mods should only be attempted on the
23 channel radios with the PC board# PTBMO39A0X
The radio pictured is a Midland 13-882C

This mod only requires one switch, some thin
wire, some good electrical solder, a 25 watt iron, and
a sharp pocket-knife for cutting through the foil
traces.
IN the picture, the thick red
lines are the 2 foil traces that must be cut through
(this takes a while, be patient and make sure you've
cut completly through) This is done to isolate pin 10
of the pll02a chip. In 23 channel radios, this pin would
normally have 5 volts on it all the time. Cut through the
foil on the red lines, and then check your cuts with a
voltmeter, pin 10 should have 0 volts.
Next solder one wire from point "A" and solder another
wire to point "B"
Hook wires "A" and "B" up to a switch. Turning the switch
in the off position will give new channels (26.645-26.935)
turning the switch in the on position gives normal 23 channels.

23 channel PLL02A mod for
Lower AND upper channels

This modification is much more difficult than the first mod,
it will require cutting 6 different foil traces and wiring
2 different switches, and a jumper wire not switched.

The road map for this mod:
Both switches up= normal 23 channels
Both switches down= 26.645-26.935
switch 1 down, switch 2 up= 27.285-27.575
switch 1 up, switch 2 down= 27.605-27.895
