Greetings...

You will find in here reviews of various YnM Fanfiction that I have read. Other items are also available here, especially links

I finally decided to pursue this project when it became all too clear to me that I was missing a great deal by writing too much & reading too little.

I miss the nights when I would go searching through the net for stories to read. Unfortunately, I can't read a lot and write a lot at the same time.

I feel bored and I feel restless. I used to read all the time. Now, I feel empty and drained, and I don't like it. I want to be just a reader again.

Wait... I know you're probably wondering why this is a blog. I'm going to add the blog elements later since my browser kept crashing when I sign on at Blogger.
Self-evaluation. I'm a serious sort of writer, but I think I have a good sense of humor. And I admit I have the tendency to be impatient and suspicious.

Trying to read one YnM fanfic a day... Going after Muraki fics first. ^^
Six down, more to go...
I think it's wonderful, enchanting that we can communicate so well with
ink stains on pieces of paper.

Amethyst Heaven by Hiso-chan

Muraki x Tsuzuki & Tsuzuki x Muraki. I read this fanfic at Fanfiction.net

Oh my... Muraki x Tsuzuki and vice versa. This is primarily a sex fic. There's an underlying plotline, yes. The main theme being that Tsuzuki is heaven to Muraki, which I think is a sweet concept. A little too sweet, a little out of character for Muraki, but sweet nevertheless. Did I go red while reading this fic, you wonder? A little red, especially during the second half. Any complaints? Ah... some parts bothered me a little because there is clashing between the soft descriptive parts and the hardcore terms used in describing Muraki's and Tsuzuki's time together. That's my impression, and I know it's never easy to make delicate and rough words work together properly. All in all, it's a story with a happy ending for Muraki and for Tsuzuki too.

Flawlessly Yours by Shi Lin
http://www.envy.nu/kurosaki
Muraki x Oriya mostly... Ah. Shi Lin has a Hisoka shrine in her site, find the fic there. It's also available in Fanfiction.net

Shi Lin's Muraki scares me, yet I feel sad for him. Reading his and Oriya's interaction in this story makes me so glad that the doctor has a protective and understanding friend in Oriya. Also, I like it that Ukyou is included in this story. This is the first fanfic I read which includes her. Though Ukyou was referred to so rarely in the series, I believe that she is important to Muraki, and Oriya knows her too. I can barely imagine their relationships, but I know it's there. Shi Lin did excellant work in hinting on the connections between these three characters eventhough little is known about Oriya and practically nothing about Ukyou.

Excerpt
// "I like your hair." She ran a slim hand through it as he looked at her oddly.
"…Why?"
"It doesn’t always look the same. Sometimes it’s silver, sometimes white or grey. Like the moon."
"The moon?"
"The moon. It’s silver tonight…like it’s reflecting you." //
That's Ukyou talking to Muraki. You have to wonder what exactly is Muraki's relationship to Ukyou, whoever she is. Is she a lover, friend, patient? All three perhaps. She might even be family. Lovely... ^^ I hope Shi Lin writes more Muraki x Oriya stories. She usually writes Tsuzuki x Hisoka. I know Tsuzuki x Hisoka has a big following, but honestly I prefer Muraki x Oriya. ... Heh... why am I suddenly talking about Muraki x Oriya, you wonder. Wasn't I just taking about Ukyou? Well... read Flawlessly Yours, and you'll find out.

Glass Eyes by Leareth
http://www.envy.nu/leareth
Muraki x Tsuzuki mostly...

If you know the events in the Kyoto Arc of Yami no Matsuei, then you know that Muraki kidnapped Tsuzuki. Fans speculate on what did happened. Did Muraki have his way with Tsuzuki or not? This fic presents a unique perspective on what happened, and the description is masterfully done. Leareth says Glass Eyes is creepy and weird. I agree it does disturb me, but Yami no Matsuei is like that. This story works wonderfully well with the series, and I like it, because it is good and not only because it's Muraki x Tsuzuki. Also... Leareth writes Muraki very well. With only just words, he sounds very sensual and... uhm... It's good, okay?

Excerpt from Author's notes "It's a very interesting POV to tell a story from, but it's very hard to write in that it gives you a very limited verbal playing field." --- I went LOL when I read this, because it was only then that I realized that indeed Leareth had limited the vocabulary used. Though this is a story meant for adults, it is told via an innocent child-like perspective. Very well-told too. Really, it's marvelous how Leareth makes Muraki sound so good (in a naughty sort of way I mean) without using blantantly sexual terms. The descriptions come out in a poetic yet direct manner. If you haven't read this fic yet, you must be wondering from whose POV this story is told from. I won't mention it here eventhough it's not exactly a spoiler. It's much better to find out on your own by reading Glass Eyes.

My Boy by Silver Foxfire

Muraki x Hisoka. I read this fanfic at the YnM ML; use the search engine in the ml to locate the fic.

Story is about Muraki etching that mark on Hisoka. It's slow work, but the doctor is a patient man, and after each etching session, he *rewards* Hisoka and himself. ... I do not need to go into details. And don't get the wrong idea; I enjoyed reading this fic. I went red a few times, but that's just the conservative side of me reacting. Don't be surprise. I do still have a conservative side. ... Don't laugh. Well now, back to the review. This fanfic is mostly lemon. There is a storyline, but it's overpowered by the lemon parts. It's told from Muraki's POV. He refers to himself in the first person, and Hisoka is he, that's third person. Thus, Muraki is telling this story and describing his thoughts, his actions, what he's doing to Hisoka and so forth to us, the readers. *grins* Muraki's really enjoying himself. We're his audience, and Hisoka's the luc- I mean, Hisoka is center of his attention, insanity, desire, lust and all of that. Hisoka is also his precious work of art. Now, on Silver Foxfire's writing style. I think she writes very well. My only little hangup is the lack of balance between plot and lemon. The scale is way overtilted to the lemon side. Lemon is good, but too much of anything (even love) is not necessarily a good thing. Yes, I like ST.

One Thousand Roses by Lachesis Fatali
http://www.webpageofdoom.com/
Muraki's POV on Tsuzuki & on Tsuzuki x Hisoka. I read this fic on Fanfiction.net

First off, I have to say that I wish this was really already the 1000th rose! The anticipation is killing me! ^^;; Well, I think that is what Lachesis intended. Anyway, the underlying plot line of this fic is that Muraki promised to give Tsuzuki a 1000 roses (one at a time), & then he'll get him. It's a good thing this is on a daily basis. A rose a week would take too long! Lachesis has Muraki's personality down to pat. The story is told from Muraki's point of view using the first person, & it's addressed to Tsuzuki using the second person. Hisoka is referred to as he; that's third person. It's not classic first person POV, since Muraki is not describing Tsuzuki to us rather Muraki is telling Tsuzuki what's been going on and what's his intentions are. It's like, we, the readers, are reading a letter that Muraki wrote to Tsuzuki. Or it's like Muraki's diary/journal/memoirs. Muraki is addressing Tsuzuki, & this makes for a unique way of telling a story. ^^ Oh yes, I do like this fanfic very much. Good fanfics make me ramble, & I like to analyze them. I focused on how the story is told, because it's a style I have never used. I use first person & third person for narration & second person only in dialogue or communication between characters. I have never done a story where a character addresses to another character in the way that Muraki addresses to Tsuzuki in One Thousand Roses. It's very effective, especially for a personality like Muraki's.

White Rose, Red Rose by Calis Cheah
http://www.oocities.org/sg/sigrd/
Muraki thinking about Tsuzuki; this fic is hosted on Compulsion

*takes a deep breath* I'm not a poetic person by nature. ^^;; The way I write, the way I understand is usually in a direct manner. Sometimes, I get flashes of inspiration, but it's seldom. I'm not sure how to review poems. Even other people see more in my own fics than I do. Still, I'll try to do this right.

White Rose, Red Rose
By Calis 26/5/01
Author's Note: I saw a Winamp skin on Muraki too often that it inspired this poem.

I
I walked through a rose garden,
Drawn by that dark sweet scent
Flooding my senses,
Seducing my brain.
II
Midst the scarlet hues,
Stood one white bloom.
So pure that its fragility
Caught my eye.
III
I plucked the flower,
Crushing it in my hand,
And felt the thorns
That pierce deep into flesh.

IV
Blood weep like tears,
Drops of rare red pearls
Dyeing the white petals
Into a familiar color clear.
V
I kissed the now crimson rose
Velvet petals against my lips
A distant memory
Of amethyst eyes.
VI
The feel of your skin,
The taste of your lips
Remain still
Beyond my reach.

VII
I will search for you
Until I find you.
One day I promise
I would make you mine.

From Calis' poem, I picture Muraki holding a rose against his lips. ^^ Yah. I know which winamp skin she's referring too. Hmm... Calis' Muraki seems gentle to me. That's my impression. In I, Muraki was overcomed by the scent of roses, and in V to VII, he's longing for Tsuzuki. He sounds like a lover longing for his love. Where's the hint of deviltry that's in Muraki's eye... Hmm... In III & IV, where he turned a white rose red with his own blood... He's going to get who he wants no matter what. You just have to admire Muraki's determination.
