Silver Shadows
YnM Fanfiction by Yen
Silver shadows dancing in the moonlight
I beg you to guide my way this night
High up above, the blue moon stays still
As cotton-white clouds move in wind's keel
I wonder where he is, thought Tatsumi, pausing in his work to look at the time. Tsuzuki was taking too long in coming back from his errand.
I won't be long at all, Tsuzuki had promised so gaily. Will be back quick, I promise, Tatsumi. That had been two hours ago.
Tatsumi sighed, unable to fight the worry that came at the thought of Tsuzuki. He's probably at the bakeshop, he said to himself in an almost successful attempt to turn his concern into irritation. Lately, he just couldn't get angry at Tsuzuki. It wasn't good thing, for Tsuzuki was taking advantage of his uncharacteristic good nature.
He tapped his fingers on the surface of his desk, indecisive on whether to keep working or go look for Tsuzuki. None of the other shinigami was in the office. If he wanted Tsuzuki back, he'll have to go and find him.
Silver shadows on the hillside
Will you please be my guide
The crickets are chirping so loudly
The fireflies glow so brightly
Where is he... His frown deepening, Tatsumi went out of the bakeshop quickly. Yes, Tsuzuki had been in there earlier, the baker had told him, but he left more than an hour ago.
He should have been back by then. Tatsumi was getting more worried and decided then to send out searchers. On the ground, his shadow began separating itself into smaller swatches and scattered in all directions.
Find Tsuzuki, he silently commanded them. Find him.
Silver shadows unseen by my eyes
Please let me see you undisguised
In light or in darkness
In joy or in sadness
His shadows found Tsuzuki quickly, unconscious and bound in a desolate warehouse. Tatsumi arrived an instant after.
"Tsuzuki!" Tatsumi examined him, cutting the rope around his wrists and ankles. They were crude bindings to hold a shinigami, and Tatsumi cursed in surprise when the rope lengths turned into snakes. His shadows immediately crushed them.
Somebody began clapping behind him, and he turned slowly to see his teacher.
"Very good, Seiichirou, your instincts are as keen as ever as well as your shadows."
"Sensei... why?"
"Just wanted to see how my one and only student was getting along at Shoukan. Don't worry about your partner. He's just sleeping."
"Is that the only reason why you came here?" Asked Tatsumi impatiently.
"Such an impudent and direct question. I see your manners haven't changed."
"You kidnapped and drugged a shinigami," Tatsumi almost growled out the words. "That is a serious offense." Watching his teacher carefully, he reached down to grab Tsuzuki's shoulder and gave him a hard shake. Tsuzuki snorted once but didn't wake up.
"Straight-laced as always so it seems," mused his teacher, "I really wonder where you get that kind of attitude. You certainly didn't get it from me."
"... Sensei..."
"I can't help it if I miss my one and only student."
"Then take on another apprentice."
"My heart breaks that you can abandon your old teacher so quickly."
"Sensei, I don't have time for your shenanigans."
"Me? I'm not the one who left before mastering the skill."
"You told me you had nothing more to teach me."
"Well... true. I did say that, but I see your shadow skill hasn't improved since the last time."
"... That's because it can't improve anymore."
"Uh uh, there is always room for improvement."
"... All right then. Tell me how I can improve my skill."
"Can't. It's a secret."
"... That's it. I'm taking my partner and going."
"Eh... you never did like guessing games."
"Good bye, Sensei."
Silver shadows rare to show
Let me see your faint white glow
From the weak comes might
From darkness comes light
"Huh hummm... you still have a lot to learn, Seiichirou-chan."
End?
Author's note: Just a short no direction sort of story. Well, I do have ideas, but I'm too tired right now to go into another plot line seriously. I was just mainly playing around with rhythms and rhymes.
