Geography

Sanandaj is the capital city of the Kurdestan Province and is laying in northwest of Iran. Sanandaj has a population about 750,000 people. This city lays between two mountains named Abidar and Kochka-Rash. Weather My city has a great weather, there are four seasons; The Spring begins with Iranian New Year (Navroz) from 21st of March till 22nd of June. Sometimes it rains in spring, but when the Sun is shining every thing is beautiful and you can see and smell of nature’s greenery all around. There is a big different between the weather in Iran and Australia; One of the differences is that you can't see a lot of trees and flowers in the whole time of the year. Sanandaj in the Spring when the nature, after a cold winter wakes up the sight of blossoms and flowers is very pleasing. The summer starts from 23rd of June and ends on the 24th of September. In summer’s lovely weather, people usually go to picnics in the many orchards and gardens that surround the city. Most people go out of the city on Fridays, which is the Iranian weekend and have a day out and eat delicious Dolma (popular Kurdish food) till evening. The schools’ long holidays is in summer and it is the full three months of the summer and for active students who have passed every exams is a good time to go to long holiday to another cities but the others have to study hard to pass the exams in the shahrevar (the last months of the summer). Schools open in the autumn and you can see thousands of students are going to school in this time. Autumn in Sanandaj is very beautiful and the painter of the nature makes a lot of colours. This season has a not-cold, not-hot weather but at the last month of Autumn the weather is going to be a little cold which telling the residents that winter is coming and they have to be prepare for that. In the winter all colours change to white because of snow and with beautiful white snow the cold weather comes and people turn the heaters on. In Iran usually the people use petrol to do heating the homes and it is because petrol is cheaper than electricity. In the past people use to use a Pulpit with fire of charcoal under and they covered the pulpit by a special Quilt,I remember when I was a young boy in the way of the school in the winter my hands always were painful because of freezing weather, but at the end of the winter it was the best time we had because the new year, Navroz and 15 days school holiday was comming(see Costumes)
