DETAILS
v Part I:
Bibliodrama (1 hour)
In this technique, participants *become* the text, by
speaking in the first person "I". Based on bibliodramatic techniques
developed by Dr Peter Pitzele, this is a powerful new way to experience the
text, and participants often have revelations about the text and themselves,
creating a form of modern Midrash spontaneously.
The aim of this part is
1) To bring the story to life in a different way so they go away connected to a
Tanach story and understanding interpretation and midrash in a different way
2) Especially for those who connect more through the imaginative and emotional
faculty rather than the intellectual, it will hook them up to text and open its
doors for them
((3) For groups studying to be madrichim or teachers: To expose them to
experiential techniques for use in teaching)
v Part II: 20
minutes of text learning and discussion.
To
see how others (Rabbis, poets) interpreted this story.
v ( Part IIa
(Optional - For groups studying to be madrichim or teachers: Training to use
of the bibliodrama tool in teaching.)
15 minute break
v Part III: Play (Approx.
45 minutes)
- One-person poetic performance play based on the
story.
The play blends poetry, narrative and rap. Five characters - Adam, Eve,
Cain, Abel and the Land, all speak from their own perspectives, as the story
draws to its bloody climax.
This artistic piece is fascinating to watch after having delved into the story
through the Bibliodrama, cementing its emotional impact, with a specific
interpretation of the story.

“After
Eden” has appeared in the UK (Kol Nefesh synagogue), the US (CAJE day-school
educators’ conference) and Israel (AJ6 year programme, Netzer, SAJES and San
Francisco day school principals) to rave reviews.
