On the 2nd of August the Queen approved a Royal Proclamation recalling a limited number of reservists to the Colours and the retention of those regular soldiers due for charge. At that time the total number of men liable to recall totalled 277,000 persons. They consisted of 24,000 in Section A and 100,000 in Section B of the Regular Army Reserve; 3000 of Category 1 and 150,000 of Category 2 of the Army Emergency Reserve. A total of 25,000
Soldiers were called up in the event. According to Sir Antony Eden's explanations in the House of Common of the Categories. In addition, precautionary measures were taken in the Mediterranean which led to eventual delaying the return home of many National Servicemen from overseas.
Three British aircraft carriers HMS Bulwark (22,000 tons), HMS Theseus (13,190 tons) and HMS Ocean (13,190 tons) were hurriedly prepared for dispatch to the Mediterranean and a squadron of the modern Canberra bombers were ordered to Malta, whilst the French fleet was assembling at Toulon, the British aircraft carriers HMS Eagle (36,800 tons) and HMS Albion (22,000 tons), the and the French Arromanches (13,190 tons) and La Fayette (11,000 tons) were proceeding their Battle readiness to take their share in the Anglo-French attack operations.
The British vessels carried a total of about 150 aircraft mainly jet , the two French carriers carried about 65 mainly propeller
