My Autobiography

Hello, my name is Lisa Greer, and I would like to tell you about myself.  I moved to Oklahoma from a small town in Southeast Ohio. I now live in Sumter, South Carolina. My parents and their parents lived in Ohio all of their lives.  My great-grandparents migrated to the United States from Germany seeking a better life, and they brought with them their German work ethic.  They worked from dawn til dusk.  My great-grandfather worked in a brickyard while my great-grandmother was an immaculate housewife.

My ancestors brought with them to the United States their ethics, customs, and desire for a better life.  The United States is made up of people who have migrated from other parts of the world.  As a teacher I will remain sensitive to and aware of my  student’s ethnicity and cultural heritages and encourage them to celebrate their cultures in our classroom.  I feel it is very important to know where we came from, where we are now, and where we plan to be in the future.

I graduated in 2002 from Cameron University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.  I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a child, and my parents have always encouraged me to fulfill my dreams.  I hope to be as caring and helpful as my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Fultz.  She made every lesson interesting and learning in her classroom was always fun.

Throughout my life, I have had many good and bad experiences.  Several job experiences have taught me much about perseverance, empathy, patience, and morals.  Not every lesson has been pleasant, but life is a wonderful teacher. As a teacher, I will be able to understand and empathize with problems my students have, while still insisting on the importance of making ethical choices.  As a single mother, I have encountered many problems that today’s students face.  I am very thankful for all the experiences I have had because the lessons I have learned have molded me into whom I am today.

I completed my student teaching in the Lawton Public School District, and earned a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Cameron University. I recently earned a Master of Education Degree specializing in Educational Technology, from Lesley University and I am now working on a PH.D. in Education specializing in Curriculum and Instruction. I am currently teaching second grade at Cherryvale Elementary in Sumter School District 2.

I am blessed with two wonderful children, Elijah and Rachel and a granddaughter,Brynn.  In my spare time, I like to visit Swan Lake and Dillon Park, walking with friends, attending church, Nascar, and spending quality time with my family.
