Parents are their children's first teachers. They can provide their children with more experiences with books, and they can help motivate their children to read.  Here are some suggestions:


Read Aloud to your child every day.

Encourage your child to select books by intreest.

Discuss books with your child.


Encourage your child to write a journal or diary from the perspective of the main character in the book being read.

Create hand puppers and act our a book they have read.

Explore answers to questions by using informational books.


Read poetry together that contains rhyme, let your child fill in the word that rhymes.
